KRLD Afternoon News

This board has been a little sleepy so I thought I’d bring up a topic of discussion.

I’m a former broadcaster and still have the need to know what’s going on in the world, so I listen to KRLD. A lot.

In the years I’ve listened, there have been some very talented anchors and reporters. I’ve admired those who can handle breaking news with no script.

However, something is majorly wrong with the Afternoon News, starting at 3pm. The anchors have issues reading, almost sounding like they’re making up the news as they go along. There’s dead air. The anchors talk on top of each other. Traffic/weather sounders are too loud so that you can’t hear the report. I’ve heard teases that were factually wrong. I may be too invested in the business so the errors pop out at me more, but I feel this block of news is a disaster. Anyone else notice? Am I being too harsh?!

I know some of the anchors are working from home but you’d think the issues would be smoothed out by now.

Not to sound totally negative... But it has been nice to hear expanded hours of news on the weekends. Hearing Mitch Carr at the helm again has been a delight.

Sometimes the issues change from day to day. If they're working from home, they're probably connecting to the main studio via the internet. That leads to shifting delays, depending on the changing speeds of the connection. Then there's the issue of monitors, in terms of how one listens to the other person. If the anchor is on one system, and the traffic is on another, the delay may be different depending on the direction of the connection. Internet is faster in one direction, slower in the other. Most of what you're talking about sounds like problems with delay. So it becomes a technical nightmare.
 
Gotcha. I was wondering if working from home was making that much of a difference. Thank you for explaining how the process works.

However, there doesn’t seem to be the same issues in the AM with their 3 anchor setup. And I know Chris Sommer (sp?) anchors solo and sounds fine. Why don’t they swap about the PM anchors and anchor solo for a half hour or hour? Seems like some of the WFH issues would be solved.
