LOL at KRIK 100.5

I tuned into KRIK 100.5 Refugio the other day and it's back on the air...

And guess what? It is retransmitting KUKY 95.9 from Arizona... www.amigo959fm.com/ WTF!

What is it gonna take for Hispanic Target Media to get their act together? They've got all these stations yet they're horrible when it comes to managing and keeping them on the air and sticking with formats...

At least KUKY sounds like the people running it know how to run a radio station, pretty professional stuff if you're listening in it's coverage area. This rebroadcasting it in completely unrelated cities won't work though... Trust me.

My emotion to that is a smh. Are they at least ID'ing KRIK, now?

I didn't hear one... But then again they never ID any of their stations. On Bronco 93 they say "KGWT - Bronco 93" every few songs, but that's not enough.

Ever since KRIK flipped from country I never listened long enough for a ID.

File a complaint with the F.C.C., Anonymouse. They have a responsiblity as a license holder to provide a station that legally ID's and serves the community that it is licensed to, no matter how big or small the operator is. That's what they signed up for when they purchased a station in the first place. It's all of our jobs to notate and report these types of violations for the proper investigation to begin. Hell, if you've got some time on your hands, go to Hispanic Target Media's offices and ask to see their public file. If they haven't got one, or it's lacking in anyway, that's yet another thing that you can file a complaint on.

I've filed complaints with the FCC before, but they don't listen. Probably because I've never been involved in any way with a radio station...
But I'll throw one up just in case. Maybe if enough people and broadcasters do it HTM'll finally get the message...

Everyone reading this board should go file something, actually.

I don't even think they even have studios in most of these towns much less public files. lol At one point there was one in George West and one in Refugio but I don't think they kept up with the leases. All the old phone numbers for the studios are also disconnected. Not sure if Zapata has studios (there are no STL licensees associated with KJJS so I am guessing no) The San Diego station runs off internet from the tower site. That alone is a major violation. They need to maintain studios and employee at least one full time person. They were better off buying some non commercial stations and applying for studios waivers if they didn't plan on having any.

Have a streaming link to the server it broadcasts? I'd like to tune it in here and see if it is on-air... LOL.

I've emailed the folks at KUKY, the guy just replied back and said he fixed the ID that airs on the station at the top of each hour to include KRIK. Also he mentioned he's got a promo announcing the station needs workers.

You should charge him a consulting fee, Anonymouse. LOL.

No idea what to price it though. I can charge him $10,000 hahahahahahahahaha. :p

He didn't even make a proper ID, he says the call letters in English, then the frequency in Spanish, then the city name in Spanish... And according to the one I heard they've got the KXAM San Diego station broadcasting KUKY too. LOL but the promo he made announcing they needed help (in Spanish by the way) was for KRIK and not at all for KXAM, so I can guess they still don't have studios in San Diego.

I think that would be a legally acceptable ID. From my reading of the FCC Rules, the Legal ID can be in the language the station's programming is in. Legal ID is call letter and city of license but one may insert station frequency and as I understand it, the corporate name. In my reading of the rules, 'One Hundred Point Five" would be okay in English or Spanish, inserted between call letters and city of license. Likewise, if WOAI went with, WOAI, Clear Channel Communications, San Antonio, that would be legal.

I really don't know how critical the Legal ID is in the FCC's eyes. So many major market stations ID the station well before the top of the hour and I knew of one station that did it at :40, the last commercial break of the hour although the jock spoke again at :50 and again at the top of the hour. Even one station had the jock do a top of hour ID but the legal ID was buried in the :50 break. I note the Legal ID is to go at a natural break in programming as close to the top of the hour as possible. Nothing happened to any of these stations, sometimes for numerous years. Likewise I worked one station 3.5 years that never did a 'legal' ID, inserting "FM Stereo" between call letters and city of license. Then again another station I worked at was fined (after getting nabbed for another issue) for saying "FM" between call letters and city of license because they did not have an AM with the same call letters.

From what I've read since my last post on this thread, I'd run away as far as I can from this company if I were you. Anyway from an outsider's perspective I haven't heard this particular broadcaster (Hispanic Target Media) air a successful station in years.

I think I heard KXAM 102.5 on the air last year however it was emitting nothing but a loud humming similar to this.

In late 2017 I heard KXFS in Rankin TX emitting the same loud humming noise.

I think I heard KGWT 93.5 in George West TX airing Spanish pop music on the air briefly one night in 2017 as well but never heard it since.

KRIK as far as I know has been off ever since Hurricane Harvey.

In short this company has fallen apart, or so it looks... Anyone know otherwise?

But what do I know? If they were a good company they'd have gotten together. But since they haven't, I'd highly recommend just avoiding them.

That's what I mean to say. I take that back about reading they're bad. On second thought I don't think I was told anything, just guessing.

Lest we forget their most interesting asset, George West's premier all-80's station, "97.9 The Fax Machine".

I can confirm KRIK is still off the air.

It used to have a good signal. It came in really well in Victoria, despite being 45 minutes away.
