Sit Coms were replaced by Reality Shows starting in the 90's. Where you been?

Reality TV was added to a mix that has and continues to include comedies and dramas. The idea sitcoms were replaced as a genre is false on its face. NBC’s fall schedule has one “reality” (competition) series airing over two nights. And two comedies. A reasonably balanced approach.

Not if you like sitcoms. Though pretty much everything NBC has tried on Thursdays in recent years has flopped.

Pretty much sums it up! Not to mention the majority NBC’s sitcoms from the height of the Must See era have all been long forgotten about. There is zero demand to see Wings, John Larroquette, Caroline in the City, Suddenly Susan, My name is Earl The Naked Truth, Mad About You etc. ever again.

Although they probably cut into other formats as well I do believe there are fewer sitcoms because of "reality" shows. I know that it's because of ratings but hopefully that will change in the future.

When you talk about NBC, there's only one reality show: The Voice. It occupies two nights, plus has occasional repeats on the weekend. Then you might call Sunday Night Football a reality show, but it's sports. Dateline might be reality, but it's news. There are several sitcoms scattered in the schedule, but they're not the big ratings-getters as the other formats.

I was thinking about the networks in general, not just NBC, but I guess you're right about them.
