Monica Hoffman is actually Monica Kauffman turned Monica Kauffman Pearson.

70s tv news folks in Atlanta

I did see Guy Sharp a few times. He's wife worked an Rich's and he'd been in North DeKalb mall after work some times.Well after 5 pm before the 11 pm news. I did get in on the beginnings of WGNX before it was CBS.For one I was there when they started to put up the tower were WATL ch #36 and ,WGNX 46,WETV ch30,WPCH fm 94.9 WLKS fm 96.9 and WBIE fm 101.5 used then. I was with Jim Wilder when he first singed on now WKHX but then it was WBIE fm. That was on what is now know as tower number one.Now days every thing has moved over to tower number two......

TV46...

was WANX till '84 when Tribune bought it, then became WGNX. They joined CBS in '94 and sold to Meredith in '99.
Were you there when 46 studios were down on Clifton Rd (before they moved to Briarcliff)? TV36 studios were once in the old Briarcliff building when they signed on in '69.

Do you recall the year when that first tower went up?

Were are they, were you there ect

I can say that Don Kennedy was the owner of WATL tv 36 and they had set up in the Shepherd mansion building and CBN used the basement and a steel building joyed it. I want to say 1968 ? the tower went up

I heard that the year was '69. Close enough. Before 36 was in there it was a production house called Production 70.
TV36 didn't have a microwave STL. They used a Bell A2A system landline to the transmitter building. About a 1400 ft run.

Back to Where Are They Now:
Kevin Cokely and Gwen Scott were 46's first anchors.
Later it was John McKnight and Karen Greer.
Somewhere in there was Steve Dawson (a real class act- network material).

were they are today ect

While I'm on it this time of day must be in England ,cause reply times are hours later than we post.Mean while there is a Georgia State university web that has Atlanta radio and tv history from the 1920s up its in there library files........https://library.gsu.edu/special-collections

were are they....

John Doyle, was a news man, and a Man last name Sawyer went to CBS news from Atlanta. Please fill in from this ok

That would be Forrest Sawyer who shared the Ch 5 desk with Pam Martin. Both were as top tier as the top gets. "Forrest & Pam"

Pam Martin Butler recently became a widow* and runs a "dude" ranch in Pickens County**. She is often seen in Jasper stores. A very nice person. I have spoke to her briefly several times.

Larry and Pam were long time customers of our nutrition business and she is just as nice as your would imagine, a real sweetheart.

An aside, her former co-worker at WAGA and co-host of PM Magazine, Virginia Gunn, passed away several years ago.

Jackie Maddox moved to Washington DC about 30 years ago, passed away not too long afterwards. Beckman, still alive, I believe and still riding motorcycles and flying his own plane, living in Stone Mountain since retirement, has written several books...one of Amazons best selling authors.
