Where Do You Stand On The Covid-19 Matter?

Go here for the latest news about this issue. I have a foot in both fields which of course means that I understand both sides of the situation completely, but since a person can't sit on the fence forever, no rhyme intended there, I can't blame Chase and Chris for getting out there again when at the end of the day, what a person chooses to do with their lives is all up to them and only them and to me, if a person wants to spend the rest of their lives in a Petri dish, its their life, but what plenty of people obviously do not get is that not everyone is going to have the same frame of mind which in my opinion is a good thing because only so many people can fit in a Petri dish anyway.

God bless you and Chase and Chris always!!!

Holly

P.S. If this chat needs to be moved to a different area of this forum or deleted all together for any reason, I will understand completely should it no longer be here at any time.

Probably needs to be moved to the Coronavirus forum. I see where you're coming from, and I feel the frustration of "living in a Petri dish" until a cure or vaccine is produced, too. But concerts like those are not advisable just now. Even if those who contract the virus have less than a 1 percent chance of dying from it, this disease is highly contagious, and those thousands of people who attended those two shows will be coming in contact with tens of thousands of people who didn't and now will inherit that same risk of illness and death. Remember, up to 40 percent of those with COVID-19 are believed to be asymptomatic. Someone who felt fine before the show and still feels fine a week or two later could still be carrying the virus and be just as capable of transmitting it as is the person with the low-grade fever and cough who thinks he/she just has a cold. The chain of infection and transmission will go on long after the concerts are forgotten and will affect people many degrees of separation from those shows.

There's an interview with Chase here where he says the Constitution allows people to have a choice in what they want to do:

"In my opinion — you gotta keep people safe and all that — I mean, f--k this. They gotta let us go play and the people that are healthy can decide if they want to come or not," Rice told Taste of Country earlier this year, as the U.S. was largely shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. "That’s what the American Constitution is all about, is us having the choice."

I don't recall where the Constitution says that. But that's what he thinks, and I'm sure a big chunk of people think like him. They don't want to be told what to do, and they think they have the right to spread the virus to others so they can have fun.

Didn't some non-country artist tell Americans to "fight for the right to party"? You mean there ISN'T something in the Constitution about that?

This is pretty much where I am coming from. If anyone who went to the shows get anything due to their choice to attend, its all on them for their decision to go to the shows or anywhere for that matter. They were under no obligation to be there.

God bless you and the guys and their dedicated and die hard fans always!!!

Holly

They were under no obligation to be there.

That's not the point. The next day, they go to work or church, and unknowingly spread the virus to an innocent senior citizen. That's how this is spreading now. From young people who show no symptoms to their parents or co-workers. I don't care if those at the show get sick. That's their problem. But if they make someone else sick who wasn't there, that's a big deal. If that other person dies, his family could blame the spreader for murder.

My take on this is very simple. If the state of Tennessee says events are permissible with up to 50% capacity, and a venue hosts a concert at 10% capacity, they have done their duty under the law. If you have a problem with that, direct your ire toward the governor of Tennessee, not some country star who probably knows as much about epidemiology as I know about drinking whiskey out of a bottle.

I don't think it is the responsibility of venues to enforce social distancing policies beyond assigning seating in a manner compliant with the guidelines (i.e. in a theater or arena, seat people every third or fourth row).

There's a local bluegrass festival that is hosted outdoors in a large park. I would not think twice about attending it this year, had the organizer not cancelled it. I would do my best to keep 6-10ft of distance to others on the grass, and I would have a mask available, should physical distancing not be possible.

Some people just don't care. They have stated it. One woman in Florida said she doesn't care if she spreads the virus to someone who ultimately dies. "That's life. Too Bad" was her comment.

Many Americans are just selfish ignorant slobs. It's a badge of honour for them. The country is screwed...

So today Governor Bill Lee extended the state of emergency through the end of August:

I think the ire directed at the singer has to do with his attitude. He's not the only one suffering here. I expect his career will take a hit from this.

While we're on the subject of the Tennessee Governor, we should point out that a lawsuit was filed against the state of Tennessee and the city of Nashville by Kid Rock and the owner of several Nashville bars to compensate them for losses during the lockdown:

https://www.wkrn.com/community/heal...joint-lawsuit-against-city-and-state-leaders/

So sure, the government should do all it can to keep its people safe from disease, but when they do, they get sued by the people they're trying to help, and told they're overstepping their bounds, or even called "fascists." On top of it, the governors and mayors are losing tax revenues, and their people in those areas will be hit with huge tax increases to make up for the losses.

There really is no good way to deal with this. Thousands of people are getting this virus every day, they've overcrowded hospital ICUs, and nobody seems to be doing anything about it. It's going to be a problem for years, even if a vaccine is found.

^^^ That right there is just it. People who get the sickness and live to tell about it will never know exactly where they got it from and how and those who lose someone that they care about to the sickness will never know for sure where the blame should be placed. With germs being what they are, they can and they will find their way to a person at some point no matter how well that person takes care of them self.

God bless you and Chase always!!!

Holly

P.S. How did Joe Diffie exactly become one of the many who took a fatal hit? We'll never know.

"More than 60% of the new COVID cases in Nashville are from people under 40:

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/pandemic-country-music-concerts-chase-rice-1022005/

“Concerts and gatherings where people are shoulder-to-shoulder present a higher risk for those who attend. That’s why there are restrictions on these gatherings in the current phase of the Nashville Roadmap for Re-opening Plan,” Dr. Alex Jahangir, the chair of the Nashville COVID-19 task force and Nashville health board chair, tells Rolling Stone. “It is imperative that everyone wear a face covering, practice social distance and wash their hands regularly if they go out. And we are seeing that many in the under-40 age group are not doing this.” Jahangir notes that half of the latest cases nationwide and more than 60 percent of cases in Nashville are from people under 40.

^^^ Another thing that most likely isn't anymore of a favor is however things have been going where airline traveling is concerned.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. I haven't been on a plane since the spring of 1991.
