WABC Simulcasting on WLIR FM 107.1

According to AllAccess, the talk station took out an LMA on WLIR FM in Hampton Bays, and is already providing its programming.
The article quotes the WABC's PD as stating that they may hire some local talent for the Long Island outlet, which would naturally indicate this eventually may not be a simulcast 24/7. The article also indicated that WABC's owner may look to expand to other markets. It's not clear whether they would be additional simulcasts of WABC, or different stations.

If Red Apple Media is willing to lease this station on Long Island, why not buy or lease WNBM from Cumulus? Even though WNBM isn't the world's greatest signal, it would make more sense than WLIR. Unless the purpose is only to keep WABC's listeners who have second homes in The Hamptons tuned in?

The signal area of WLIR covers an area way outside the 5 mv/m WABC coverage, but inside the NYC Nielsen market. It is additive.

Watch that little pea-shooter FM get more listeners than 770. It would be nice if he'd change the call letters so WLIR can finally R.I.P.

WABC's cume, approaching 500,000 across several different rated markets, is greater than the total 60dbu coverage area population of the FM and its translator.

Will this simulcast continue in the fall when the population of eastern Long Island declines?

This is no different than other tourist areas: transients don't get PPMs, and many businesses depend on permanent residents so they continue to advertise all year long.

In any case, the preferred media list for tourist oriented customers does not include local radio for the most part.

I haven't look at the WABC programming schedule. Does it target a liberal or conservative audience, and does long island mirror that. Is the older demo large enough. Those are some of the factors to make it a success.

WABC is conservative. The 107.1 morning show as well as the rest of the simulcast programming is conservative as well.

According to RadioInsight, the owner of WABC has filed with the F.C.C. their intention to purchase WLIR 107,1, for $900,000. The $15,000 monthly being paid for the LMA will be credited toward the purchase, once the sale closes.
