WKLB Adds Backstage Country

Well there are 9 DJ positions that won't be coming back

And we will likely see much more of this.

In much of the rest of the world, there is little or no local radio. The big shows with big numbers come out of the main media centers and are rebroadcast across the different nations.

In other words, just like TV.

but we are radio, we are live and local, we love our community, yada yada yada.

Our kids go to school with your kids..... we shop where you shop we're connected

So the new norm is network programming...

wasn't that the terrestrial's argument against SXM?

Hmmm... networking works so poorly for TV, so it must be because, other than news, they have too many national shows.

I've heard small market stations use that sort of imaging, Christ. (Interesting name you got there, fella.) You know, where it's really kind of true. Can't imagine it on a major metro station.

Re:

How long before liquidity strapped Beasley ditches local jocks on its rock stations at night in favor of (a) voicetracking / automation or (b) a syndicated program such as HardDrive XL?
(Won't be an issue for 92.9; they already follow that playbook.)

WROR has been automated after 7 PM for years.

You are forgetting that the liquidity problem of stations in all size markets has to do with the significant loss of revenue caused by nearly five months of the pandemic.

Each station and group, whether in Show Low, AZ, or NYC, has to reduce costs to survive.

I don't think that this quote is as valid today as it was in the pre-Internet era. Today, people of all ages are used to non-location-specific entertainment. Better a good show from NYC or LA than a mediocre or downright bad one in Little Rock or Spokane or Helena.

Actually, I am extremely mindful of that issue, David. Contrary to Beasley's rosy press release, I am sure budget tightening played a big role in this recently announced programming move.
