Sinclair To Launch Headline News Service

https://tvnewscheck.com/article/top-news/250273/sinclair-to-launch-headline-news-service/

Proposed to open in 2021 for Sinclair owned stations and STIRR.

Sinclair Broadcast Group today announced that it will be introducing a headline news service scheduled to premiere in early 2021. This new program, it says, “will report on the news as it happens, providing dynamic and timely journalism and insight into the most important stories happening each day.”

In the initial phase, the headline news service will air weekday mornings from 6 to 9 a.m. across Sinclair’s CW and MyNetworkTV affiliates, as well as on STIRR, Sinclair’s free, over-the-top streaming platform.

Sinclair says the headline news service will primarily focus on “and elevate commentary-free content provided by Sinclair’s extensive network of local broadcast stations, and will also offer original content produced specifically for the program. Further, it will bring some of the most important national stories to audiences as well, making it one of the only platforms available that can simultaneously provide both local and national perspectives on the day’s most pressing news.”

Sounds like a NewsCentral redux to me that no one is going to watch.

Three hours is too long. Two hours is long enough.

Will Sinclair make this mandatory for their CW/MyNet stations? I can't imagine the CW/MyNet stations with outsourced 7am newscasts would be happy if it was required to be aired.

The station producing it wouldn’t be happy either.

In the case of one of your markets, it will only be on one of WLFL or WRDC, since it is a duopoly and neither have outsourced morning news. I would guess WLFL.

WLOS really should have 7am news on WMYA. But they don’t. Will they start one now to get out of this?

How about on My Network TV and / or CW stations not owned by Sinclair? it can work on WWOR My 9 in NY due to them not having anything to fill three hours in the mornings.

Maybe I'm missing it, but I didn't see that mentioned in the release. Offering the service as syndication might be a good idea, but it would require some infrastructure they may not have right now. The smart move would be to make a deal with CW and use their infrastructure.

This will be an epic fail it will air on CW7 but just 2 hours 6AM since they repeat Newchannel3 at 6AM at 7AM and then 8AM unless they air the 7AM hour at 8AM. When Sinclair tried Kids Click CW7 aired it at 5AM Mon- Sat Sunday was the only day they aired it in patern which was 7AM to 10AM on Sunday. Kids Click was on from 6AM to 9AM Mon- Sat.

There are some CW affiliates that air outsourced news and a few even have their own news like WCCB and WISH (due to being formerly affiliated with Fox and CBS, respectively). If it ever airs in Charlotte it will be on WMYT.

Sinclair had to pull a segment from its TV stations hosted by Eric Bolling that promoted a conspiracy theory about Dr. Fauci:

Bolling did an interview with an author who claims Dr. Fauci created COVID-19 and sent it to Wuhan China.

Bolling formerly worked at Fox News before he was forced to resign due to harassment allegations.

Yes because Dr. Fauci is now the target for harassment and death threats according to this article. I don't know if the Sinclair thing is the reason but its all over the place at this point.

It's because of garbage like this that I'm glad the merger of Sinclair and Tribune didn't happen. They would have taken over WREG in Memphis if it had happened. It's one thing to take a conservative side on legitimate issues, but when a station or station group do nothing but be a rear end kisser to Trump and spread outright lies that's inexcusable.

Problem with WWOR - It's owned by FOX
