Billing?

I would love to see how well WKTU could actually do if they returned to what they started out as, just an updated version of that.
Today they play songs like Lewis Capaldi and it's not even the dance remix.
I guess they are afraid that it would take too much from z100 or even lite fm if they got ktu back to being a rhythmic dance hot ac. Instead they fight with 102.7 as both are pretty much hot ac, even if ktu does play 1 or 2 "special" songs an hour.

Perfect way to go from a 3 share to a 1.

That's the last thing I would advocate.

I just think KTU should go back to the formula that worked so well for them but a 2020 version of it.

C'mon, "Roses" is top 5 at chr, it's a dance song that's a sure hit, yet KTU doesn't or barely even plays it when it should be a power for them.

KTU is the place for current dance hits along with a nice gold catelog of rhythmic and dance songs. It isn't difficult to know what the hits are that work and what are fringe songs that only hard core edm fans want. Sure, you can play those "Pulse" songs on WKTU....at 3am Sunday morning.

KTU should sound like New York, instead now it doesn't live up to its slogan "The Beat of New York".

Re:

An EDM format on 103.5 might come close to matching 102.7's miserable ratings during its short-lived "Blink 102.7" format! (Anyone out there remember THAT disgrace?)

I think a Pulse-type format would fall in the disaster territory of “FM News 101.9”- just a less expensive, but equally ratings-challenged disaster.

The 6+ number is fairly meaningless but I guess it's an easy way to simply say how well a potential station would do.

The pulse format on the full market 103.5 would actually get around a 2 share, probably the same or a little worse than Nash and Alt do.

BUT why would anyone do that when they could get a 4.5 to 5.0 by just doing a 2020 updated version of the original KTU 2.0 format?

What really matters is that KTU being the beat of New York again would do very well 25-44 with both women and men.

Outside of the 1 'how u doin' anthem George LeMond don't stop believing type of song per hour, KTU sounds pretty much like an any bland market in America station which is crazy. I remeber being very young but still when I heard WKTU in early 96 before the ratings came out, I knew it was going to shoot up to the top of the ratings because it
absolutely nailed the music perfectly for NYC.

The timeline has moved up quite a bit since then but there are lots of great gold rhythmic songs they are missing along with the insane avoiding the right dance remixes of songs that in their original form, e.g Lewis Capaldi, sound ridiculous outside of "the beat of new york" positioner. KTU 2.0 picked the right remixes of mass appeal songs and smartly knew which songs you leave alone and which ones need a remix to stay true to the station's mission.

What does a “station’s mission” mean? As far as I know the mission is maximizing billing for the station’s owner, not remaining true to some artificial format construct that you just created off of the top of your head.

I won't respond in kind as I should since it is quite possible that your little anger issue here is based on your local pharmacy being closed today, I wish the best for you with that.

You might want to understand radio formats, the demos they attract, and how to maximize profits through a cluster strategy like the wall of women i-heart impliments with z100, ktu, and lite fm. The strategy is not flawed, in fact z100 and lite fm are pretty close to perfectly programmed, ktu is the weak link but you wouldn't understand that if you don't know the history of this market and of the station itself. "The beat of New York" was a strong brand that performed not only well on its own but fit flawlessly between WHTZ and WLTW. It lost its way when it was used as a flanker against chr 92.3 and thus now rather than going to back to its winning identity it is now used against 102.7.

Any comments about that Pulse station is just an acknoledgement of ignorance when it comes to knowing what WKTU 2.0 once was and how it lost its way. btw, the format is anything but artificial, it was designed perfectly and the ratings proved that for the many years that it stayed true to its mission, an adult pop rhythmic station for adult women who in New York there are a great many who like mass appeal pop rhythimic music (not hip hop).

BTW, Hollywood in afternoons is awesome as is some of the other talent on the station who do what they are expected to do.

Well I guess I need meds. I must make a doctor's appointment. From running stations for owners, the question is 'how does this make me money'. Your job is kept by not losing money. A station's past makes no difference, only the profitability. That is the mission and the only mission. Now, you might have something concerning the nuances of positioning in the market, but if that's the case, why aren't you knocking on the GM's door?
