The New Jubal KBKS Morning Show - Questions?

--Did Jubal leave KQMV knowing he would land months later on KBKS?

--Did iHeart make him an offer to leave the Brooke & Jubal show? Just lie low for a few months?

--Jubal must have been making some decent money if the show is on in Chicago, Portland and other cities, in addition to always being the top morning show in Seattle. Did iHeart top that pay check?

--Or did Jubal leave because he got bored? Or had some personal problems? KQMV never explained his leaving.

--What was with the whole Jubal Fresh name change?

--Is he fully committed to 106.1? I guess now that his wife is also employed, they will try to make this work?

--Brooke Fox is a veteran radio personality. Jubal was a stand up comedian who got hired as her funny side kick. Can he be the host now, the core of the show?

No. He was let go by Hubbard for a not-revealed-to-the-public reason. (but many have speculated).

That's somewhat inaccurate - Although Jubal does perform comedy, he's as much of a "veteran radio personality" as Fox is. Jubal produced the morning show at KISS before leaving for Movin' in 2011. He produced the "Brooke & Monti" show until Monti Carlo left, then slid into the co-host slot.

I guess Jubal got dismissed from KQMV for an unknown reason. But after being on such a popular morning show that brings in a lot of $$$, iHeart is taking a chance on him. After all, iHeart seems unable to figure out what to do with KBKS, or how to compete with KQMV.

It turns out, this is an opening iHeart didn't expect.

Interesting given that conventional wisdom, here and elsewhere, is that iHeart doesn't spend money on local talent.

My question, that wasn't on your list, is how long will the Jubal Show remain strictly local, given the syndicated success of B&J.

One hint is that Brooke & Jubal was syndicated to 50 stations by iHeart's Premiere Radio Network.

He never produced at KQMV. Steve Boyd has produced the AM show through both iterations with Brooke; The Ladies Room and Brooke & Jubal, except for a short hiatus last year. Jubal also wasn't the sidekick, he was lead mic on that show since shortly after launch in 2011.

Brooke and Jeff are still syndicated through Premiere in a joint deal that was put together between Hubbard and Premiere. iHeart owns Premiere, so I wouldn't be shocked to see them wind down Brooke and Jeff and replace it with Jubal's new show, especially on iHeart owned stations.

How many iHeart stations is it on? I would guess none. In fact Premiere has several morning drive shows in this format originating at other iHeart stations.

I see no reason why they'd drop B&J if it gets them on other Hubbard stations and other outside stations. Premiere just acts as a distribution company.

I can answer the question regarding the name change to “Fresh.” The “Flagg” name carried some baggage in his life (family abuse, et al.). He was pretty open about it when he legally changed it.

(I’ve listened to him since the Jackie & Bender days, and remember the name change pretty well.)

There are probably a few iHeart stations that carry B&J. I know for sure that Hot AC 103.1 KCDA Post Falls/Spokane carries it.
 
I have just listened to Jubal 106.1 via the iHeartRadio app, and they announced that Jubal's new morning show will begin "in a couple of weeks."
 
As scheduled, Jubal's new show started on what is now Hits 106.1. Jubal and his wife Alex are joined by Justin, Alabama, and English Evan (yes, the last person is from England). During the first hour, there was a phone prank, a first-date followup, and a dirty little secret. The phone pranks happen every hour on the 20s during the show. They also have War of the Roses.

This show definitely has some funny moments, as well as some weird ones. I don't think I'll be listening to the show every morning, but I have enjoyed what I've heard.

This is inaccurate.

He was the stunt guy / 3rd (4th?) seat on Jackie and Bender at KISS, and he was never the producer for Brooke & Monti. Monti "left" the show, Brooke and Kel hosted for a bit, then they hired Jubal and moved Kel to nights. Steve Boyd is the producer for mornings at KQMV, and I think he started when Monti was still there.

The other answers weren't entirely correct either.
 
iHeart owns the rights to it, not that it doesn't feel wrong... but they weren't going to let go of one of the best testing features in the market, let alone company. CM&A will likely still be able to use it wherever they go, if someone else in that market doesn't already use it.
 
Lydia Cruz left her position at 710ESPN yesterday. She used to be on the Brooke & Jubal in the Morning show....is there a position on the new Jubal morning show?
