Future of WMAS under Entercom

Could we see a format switch at WMAS if its sale to Entercom goes through? I've always thought it strange that Springfield doesn't have a CHR of its own, with a Hartford station, WKSS, being its de facto CHR station despite not targeting Springfield much in its advertising. I know that AC and Hot AC aren't the same, but could Entercom find CHR a more lucrative option for WMAS or does status quo still make more sense?

Unlikely. WMAS has performed well and consistently. I don't think there's a hole in the market for a CHR - iHeart's doing Hot AC on 93.1. I expect the format to remain pretty much as is.

Seems to me the format of the station is less important than the ability to restrict the signal from interfering with WNSH.

This is a really random question, and totally the wrong time of year to be asking it, but at least it's a thread about the right radio station....

Does anyone know what year Brett Provo first started doing the All Request Christmas Drive at 5 shows on WMAS?

There is a format hole in Springfield for CHR.

It would seem that way, but that may not be as big of a hole as it looks. WHFM left the CHR format in the late-80’s a few years before the CHR doldrums of the 90’s to become WHYN-FM. That hole has been around for more than three decades, and no commercial full-power signal has tried to fill it.

It's not on iHeart any longer, nor is it on TuneIn. Entercom has actually not been good about getting its properties off of those other platforms. Its Chattanooga and Richmond stations are still on iHeart.

Wow, I was not expecting that. You think that iHeartRadio would removed them after Entercom buy those stations but no.
