I wonder why neither cable system carried the Las Vegas independent station Channel 5 KVVU? If they could pull in network TV stations from Reno and Boise, I imagine they could get KVVU, so there'd be one independent station on the line up.

Elko is along the Interestate between Reno and SLC. It has a lot in common with Boise, SLC and Reno... not so much with Las Vegas.

And back in that era, it might not have been easy to get a Vegas signal in Elko, while the other markets were likely available on the area microwave networks.
