Cumulus Media Country 99.1 WDEN-FM Macon GA has announced the arrival of James Bierley as its new morning co-host alongside 37 year stalwart Laura Starling.

Bierley most recently co-hosted mornings at iHeartMedia Country “Gator 107.9” WGTR-FM Myrtle Beach SC where he also served as Program Director for “Rock 107.1” WRXZ. He has also worked at WHFX/WYNR Brunswick GA and served as a producer at WGST Atlanta in his career.

Coming soon to WDEN-FM.

I started listening to WDEN when they were in that little-bitty building at 127 First Street. I understand they are still a great station.

They are weaker on 99.1. When WDEN was on 105.3 they were very strong. And even 99.1 WAYS was stronger back then. I don't know what happened. Even 105.5 I think they still use the old WDEN tower it can be heard better in Dublin than 99.1. I remember picking up 105.3 way above Atlanta back in the late 80's I picked it up around Dalton way before they moved frequencies.

At some point around '01-'02, 99.1 made some modifications to its signal. Not sure if it moved towers or not, but it went down 75-100 feet from where it was before. It's still more than 500 feet above average terrain, but lowering its height that much could still be significant.

In the case of 105.3, it was upgraded to rimshot into Atlanta. The previous owners sold that stick for a fortune and cashed out the rest of the cluster to Cumulus about a year later.
