KSLX #1 August 6+

Well, the number one position in meaningless 6+ reporting is actually a tie, and there are other ties as well:

1 KSLX/KESZ

2 KYOT

3 KOOL

4 KNIX/KTAR

5 KFYI/KMXP/KUPD

6 KJZZ

7 KHOT

8 KZZP

9 KALV/KVVA

10 KLNZ

Bubbling under the Top 10 - both KDKB and KMLE are glad it's September. KAZG/KOAI are tied with 1.4. And the only Sports Parking Lot with traction is KMVP (wonder if their listeners are real people or cut outs?)

BULLETIN: from the Media Hut Newsroom comes word that the new #1 station in Miami is WFEZ. Yes indeedy, FEZ rules!

I will say, after about a year of tinkering with the format, I think KOAI 95.1 FM has finally gotten a foot hold of their “WOW Factor!” format. Gone are most of the 1980’s, 1990’s and 2000’s country songs and there is a lot more 1960’s and 1970’s oldies. Gone are the re-recordings and knock-offs. Despite this, there are still some head scratching moments. I did hear Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” from 2009 last week which was very out of place. I also heard Evanescence‘s “Bring Me To Life” from 2003 transitioning into Ben E King’s “Stand By Me” from 1961, another odd transition. But, compared to a year ago, there are definitely more oldies from the 1960’s and 1970’s being played on KOAI-FM and it is a refreshing change.

Does not surprise me one bit that KOAI and KAZG are tied in the ratings considering they, for the most part, play the same music (although I will say that KOAI does have some deeper 60’s hits than KAZG). I just hope KOAI can keep the positive momentum going and continue to build on their oldies format. A very daunting task for a “radical new format” as they call it during a pandemic.

But they are not ties. In 25-54, KOAI has a .7 to the 0.3 of KAZG.

In 55+, KAZG has a 3.6 and KOAI has a 2.6. KAZG just barely makes the top 10.

Neither have enough listening to make for a decent buy for any client. in 55+, the top three stations have 25 shares, while KOAI and KAZG todgether have less than a third of that. The top 6 stations in that demo give you more 25-54 than the remaining 28 stations that "show" in 55+.

Sees as though it would get very sweaty under a fez this time of year, whether in Miami or Phoenix.

You haven't seen? On MeTV they are advertising a fez with a built in solar powered fan, perfect for both the desert and the tropics. The longer you stay out in the sun, the KOOLer you get.

Interesting, so older people prefer current sports to oldies music.

Not in Phoenix they don't.

Coyotes - losers
D-Backs - losers
Suns - a laugh a minute
Soccer - What's that team name again?
Sun Debbels - Not playing this year

Did you see the quote I was referring to? You don't listen to either station.

The top 12 in 55+ are:

KFYI
KOOL (FM)
KTAR (FM)
KJZZ
KESZ
KSLX
KYOT
KNIX
KAZG
KMXP
KBAQ
KHOT

The Top 7 have 52% of the 55+ shares.

The next 7 have 26% of all the 55+ shares; the first 7 have exactly double the shares of the second set of 7.

The third set of 7 has just under 12 shares.

Where is KOAI on this list? Bueller? Bueller?

The engineers at the Media Hut switched out the fan on my fez to extra high speed. Seems the incessant brain farts were leaving an unpleasant odor!

Ah, but I got two of them. Just a little extra for shipping and handling.

But when they arrived, I found that I had to handle myself.

... that is either dementia or advanced Epstein syndrome.

That KOOL ranking is for the primary broadcast, right, not the HD-3 program? (Their HD-3 is “the 70s channel” is why I ask)

The HD does not show.

No HD channel shows above a 0.0 rating in Phoenix. The ones that do show with a 0.1 share is the HC3 of KBAQ. The data is confusing, but it appears that they have a translator for that; HD2's and HD3's that show tend to be the ones with translators. Only a couple of pure HD's make the book anywhere in the US:

The two HD2 stations in Houston that have appeared without a translator simulcast on streams, and one also simulcasts on a PBS TV subchannel.

Since KBAQ's HD3 is the radio reading for the blind service, that could get a consolation 0.1 without an analog translator.

Yes, SunSounds is available via many methods. I wonder which of the methods would be counted in the ratings?
https://sunsounds.org/tune-using-variety-technology

HD-2 and HD-3 and beyond are counted as originator if they have a translator as the translator is dependent on the HD channel for its license.

If an HD is repeating an AM or another FM (as signal fill if the HD signal is on a better FM than the one being rebroadcast), then the originating station gets the credit. The source, not the dependent, is listed. That means the HD, even if most of the audience is on the auxiliary service.
