Culver City's Radio Station

Stolz sold this permit, whats he have to do with it now?

Ed Stolz did not sell the CP. he lost the CP for failure to construct twice. The FCC opened up the frequency again and Levins/Schwarb Partnership was granted the CP. They have yet to build it. There is a current deadline of September 23, 2020.

Anyone feel like driving up to Montecito Heights and verify two new towers have been erected? They're using the existing tall tower, so this will be a three stick directional signal. How ironic...Ed Stolz faces prison the same month his former permitted station is to go on the air!

Some time ago I heard that they were considering the use of two vertical wires strung from the guys of the tall tower there. Also in LA, KRLA-870 uses one vertical wire hung off a guy as the additional tower in their pattern.

There are no applications pending for KWIF to changes sites as of today. Somehow I expect they will file another request to extend construction saying covid has prevented them from constructing and then file to change sites.

They originally were going to diplex on KWKW's towers, but KABC beat them to it. Don't know about moving to a different site, though. Tough to find any land for a multi tower array because of cost and NIMBYs.

Poor guy..walking around hung with a metal wire. YIKES!

For the sake of discussion, let’s say the “Tall Guy” is 7 feet tall and had a vertical wire attached to the top of his head down to his shoelaces. What frequency would he be best resonant at? Would you have to ground his belt buckle? Would it help if he stood in a puddle of water? I assume that this “Tall Guy” would not be required to be lit at night.

All depends on his shoe size. At 1500, he's probably wearing a size seven b.

Would you have to ground his belt buckle?

No...the buckle helps beam the signal into downtown Culver City

Would it help if he stood in a puddle of water?

Yes. Because of the history of this frequency, a cistern will be dug into the side of the hill to provide said puddle for his feet.

I assume that this “Tall Guy” would not be required to be lit at night.

If he's hung with a wire, he definitely is lit all the time!
