Entercom to syndicate stryker and klein

Just heard them make the announcement on the air -- Stryker and Klein will now be heard on in the mornings on ALT 105.3 in San Francisco, ALT 103.7 in Dallas and 96.3 The Buzz in Kansas City.

That's part of a much bigger series of changes affecting Entercom stations nationally. It's similar to the change they made with KAMP running the Morning Mess from Phoenix. The other change is that KROQ's 7PM to midnight show will come from WNYL New York.

Shared Programming at Alternative

At alternative, KROQ’s “Stryker and Klein” morning show will now also be heard in San Francisco, Dallas and Kansas City. The “Church Of Lazlo” afternoon show from “The Buzz” KRBZ Kansas City will also air in Las Vegas and Dallas. The “Cane & Corey” morning show from “Alt 92.3” WNYL New York will be heard in Miami, Orlando, Buffalo and Baltimore. And the “Dave and Mahoney” morning show from “X 107.5” KXTE Las Vegas will also air in San Diego. WNYL night jock Kevan Kenney will host a national night show from 7pm-midnight across the 15 alternative stations. Some dayparts will retain local hosts.

“This is not a one-size-fits all, cut-and-paste strategy,” Martin said. Talent are being placed on stations “where we feel they thread the best or have a connection with the market.” For example, Kevin Klein from “Stryker and Klein” has a radio history in San Francisco.

As part of what the company says is a commitment to putting the listener first, the “Two-Minute Promise,” which keeps spot breaks to no more than two minutes, is being expanded to all its alternative stations.

Nothing says LA like a syndicated show from New York. I am sure it will be very successful.

Funny how Dave & Mahoney are being syndicated to San Diego as opposed to Stryker and Klein. Gee, I wonder why? ;)

(Yes, that is a rhetorical question. LOL)

The Dallas, San Francisco, and Kansas City stations already earn terrible ratings; Entercom thanks to internal mismanagement ruined a once strong station in the case of Kansas City. I suppose there isn't much downside in relying on out-of-market content in the case of those three stations.

San Diego is a more interesting case. I hope 91X wipes the floor clean with 94.9.

Ha- great point. I honestly forgot about that! I was too focused on his brief flirtation with the San Diego market. :)

Mahoney also did mornings on 91X for a brief period of time!

I think he got a raw deal there. I was glad when he showed up in LA.

Yeah, the severity of the blowback surprised me.

That said - the originally intended format for 97.3, in my opinion, would likely have proven to be a ratings dud. In the end, I think the station is better off for having flipped to All Sports.

I checked all of Entercom's Alternative websites today and wow - looks like they really cleaned house at most of their alt stations!
The End in Seattle now only has one local host. So does ALT 94.9 in San Diego, ALT 105.3 San Francisco and X107.5 in Las Vegas.
The Buzz in Kansas City has rebranded as an ALT station, cleaned out house and only has one local show "Church of Lazlo," which is syndicated now to Dallas and Las Vegas.
This may be one of the most aggressive cut-cutting efforts I've seen from a major radio corporation since the pandemic started...

At the same time, they've all cut commercial loads to the 2 minute promise. So fewer commercials, more music.

Also looks like they're trying to re-brand all their alternative stations to "Alt" moniker when they can - including Las Vegas (formerly X107.5) and Kansas City (formerly The Buzz).

I'm listening to Kevan Kenney right now and the show doesn't say either LA or NY. It's very clear this is a radio.com show. The only mentions of KROQ are recorded liners before and after the stop sets referencing the two minute commercial break limit. I think the show is an improvement over what KROQ was running before. Kevan gives info on the music almost every break. It's much more entertaining than hearing music, liners and commercials presented by a "personality" who talks less than 30 seconds every half hour.

You rather hope it doesn't happen but, what length of time needs to lapse before Entercom could re-brand KNDD?

I think iHeart still uses Alt on an HD-2 station (96.5), so it likely won't happen.

Personally, I think because Mike Kaplan worked at The End for a while back in the day, he probably doesn't want to destroy the heritage branding of that station because he knows it's strong in that market...just my thoughts...

Yep, Kevin Klein did Mornings on Live 105. He and the Team were shown the door when they tweaked the station and rebranded as Alt 105.3. I still call it, LIVE 105.

Why are Entercom and iHeart so focused on the "Alt" branding? I assume it tests well? That baffles me too, as the word "alt" seemed so connected to the term "alt-right" in recent years.
