Black Information Network coming to Houston

Has anyone been following what Iheart is doing with BIN? They will launch in Houston on 10/1 on a low power FM signal, I believe 102.5.

What do I know, but I wonder whether BIN will lose some focus after the election. Why start now?

And does anyone know why they would try a new station on such a weak signal?

Eddie is probably the shrewdest radio operator in the market. Why is he doing this?

BIN is a differently funded radio network. The 'advertisers' are using what is essentially public relations budgets that make the network profitable day one without selling a commercial. What they offer is reach or simply being in lots of the major cities to deliver a radio option via BIN. As long as 102.5 reaches the right areas, they're good.

That is a sweet deal. I read that they have put together signals in a lot of markets. But I don't hear 102.5 in Houston.... hopefully the signals in other markets will be better.

Could it probably be KMAZ 102.5 fm?

No LPFM licensee may enter into an operating agreement of any type, including a time brokerage or management agreement, with either a full power broadcast station or another LPFM station.

So, no, it's not going to be KMAZ-LP.

If they're going to clear it in Houston, they'll use a HD subchannel and lease/buy a translator or put it on a dying AM like they have done in other markets.

K287BQ 105.3 is a possibility. Currently running its music fill after the Masala Radio tryout and presumably looking for a programmer.

It is 10/02/20 amd still haven’t heard this network in houston. Anyone find anything about it??

It looks like the :60 second news casts are running on KMAZ-LPFM. Premiere Networks is now offering in syndication the national news service from iHeartRadio’s recently launched BIN: Black Information Network.

Tuned through local FM HD signals earlier this evening listening for any sign of BIN, but not found. Same HD lineup on the iHeart FMs (Pride Radio plus simulcasts of the AMs.)

KPRC -- BIN

KLVI bills too much to justify flipping it to BLM...KPRC or 790 would be more likely the choice...unless iHeart buys another AM in BPT...they can't in Houston

Do you think KPRC makes much money for Iheart? That station was a heritage station, and seems like they have taken it down.

Thinking more about this.... if iheart is really serious about this format, they should put it on KPRC. Feels like KPRC is an after thought at Iheart, needs something new.

I heard from a good source that there will be an announcement next week about BIN in Houston.... but still not sure on what signal.

104.5? 105.3? 94.1? iH is not above renting these little mosquitoes. I doubt they blow up KPRC for a network that may not be around very long. Corporate "Sponsors" will eventually move on once the BLM movement is pushed aside and another social issue takes the national center stage.

It's sad, but that's the society we live in. BLM was huge during Ferguson in 2014, but then it took a backseat to immigration and LGBT issues. Corporate America will follow the most popular social movement that will help get their brand out. I just don't see "BLM" being the flavor of the month for much longer now that the presidency has been won by the DNC.

Well, there's a basket case on 1520 that could use a format, if iHeart can actually find a working phone number for the station. However this would be the worst time of year to launch new programming on a pure daytimer.

The 105.3 translator would make the most sense, but who knows. Might keep an ear on the iHeart FM HD signals for any origination feed.
