Baseball Coverage

In recognition of the Reds 150th season - here's another good "throwback era" book: https://www.amazon.com/Lost-Ballpar...=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=067083811X (Sold some books, happened to see this at 1/2 Price books - as soon as I saw Lawrence Ritter I grabbed it. I mentioned his "Glory of Their Times" earlier.) ...Outside of Cincy, not sure the history of Reds much promoted by MLB - they had pretty tough travel schedule this year too. Hey - Reds were first! Can't change that!

I was listening on SiriusXM and will miss Marty greatly, just as I miss Harry and Skip Caray, Bob Murphy and Phil Rizzuto. None of them called games of teams I followed, but they all were unique characters. I hope Marty enjoys a long, happy, healthy retirement.

I found it funny that Blandino, who struck out to end the game, tipped his cap to Marty afterward. If he'd been able to hear Marty's call of that at-bat, he'd have heard Marty criticizing him for taking way too many pitches.

Great links & comments. By chance just heard Tommy Thrall w/Sloan. Tommy referenced that point in broadcasting minors games where he decided to be the same guy on the air that he is off the air. He wants people he meets to feel like "yeah, that's the guy I know from the broadcasts".

Game 1 2020

Finally the season has started! Heard the "Chickster" doing the Extra Innings broadcast. I think that he sounds pretty seasoned as far as his announcing skills. He was reminiscing about going to Crosley Field as a kid in the 1960's.

Anyone catch the broadcast??? Thoughts???

I was thinking how funny it would have been to hear Marty sign off last night....." A game that took three hours and 26 minutes to play in front of a crowd of zero"

Opinion Poll

I know that it is a modified season and things are really unusual right now...but I'm taking a poll here with respect to the game broadcasts.

What is the feeling out there with respect to how it is going on-air?

Does Cowboy sound like he did with Marty?? Is Tommy a good replacement? Would Chick Ludwig be a good announcer for the games????

What should stay the same and what could be improved?

Opinion Poll

In this case, Tommy Thrall, not Thom Brennaman

What are some thoughts on the broadcasts?

Is Thrall doing a good job? Does his style of announcing lend itself to chemistry with Cowboy?

Or am I trying to compare an old paring to the new paring?

Would Chick and Cowboy pair up better? Or two other people not yet mentioned???

Just taking a poll on how it is going (???)

This is unprecedented as we are having games played in front of no crowd...so we have to keep that in mind as well.
