Those "free" numbers are not ratings, they are shares.

A bigger piece of a smaller pie is not an increase.

Sorry David, somewhat of an inside joke between myself and TiredOfItAll, not meant to be a factual analysis of the data presented.

OK, that means two posts with something "inside" I have "landed with my heels" on tonight! Sorry

Just so David is in on the joke, WRKO morning man Jeff Kuhner , who was doing mid days a while back, was crowing one time after the management had moved his time slot that he was going to be syndicated or some such BS..

He seems to IMHO have a very high opinion of himself and his talent, an opinion that is not shared by many people.

I find him unlistenable

I'll leave it at that...

As for WXKS FM being on top, and yes these are "Beauty Queen" numbers not actual data suitable for anything but bragging rights, I'll wait for a couple of ratings periods to go by to see if it is a trend or a fluke.

I guess Kuhner does alright with his 'preaching to the converted' audience, although never really got the appeal of such an across the board one sided opinion.

Awhile back I was getting some lunch and walked by an Au Bon Pon. Sitting at one of the outside tables was this older gentlemen, eating his small soup with a piece of bread by himself and he had a little am/ fm transistor radio on the table. Of course it was tuned to WRKO, and he just saw there chewing his soup and vigorously nodding his head in agreement with whatever Kuhner was spouting. Felt like the perfect encapsulation of RKO's audience. Old, angry, white guys just telling the world to get off their lawn.

When iHeart took over RKO they extended Jeff's contract another year, at least, and he said that maybe iHeart would find a way to syndicate his show.

Entercom did not, we'll leave that be!
When Jeff moved to noon he said noon was the
most important time slot...not AM or PM drive. Most stations run syndie shows like Rush at noon. And
yes Rush has done well with that slot, nationally
since 88.Not totally gangbusters but good
enough.But I'd think AMD and/or PMD
matter more...and Jeff could crow about being
sent back to AMD later!

Has anybody self-destructed more effectively than WEEI??

First, looking at any sports station since March is useless.

Second, that station was part of the three-company transaction when CBS sold to Entercom and then spun to Beasley. Obviously, there would be changes in such a situation.

Yes, bragging rights. Remember back in the day when Kiss 108 had real competition? Which of course ended with Kiss buying them instead.

Hmmm let's see, what Boston sports team is carried on WEEI? How well did they do this year? Last Place????!!!

Talk about self destruction.

Is this discussion about WEEI-FM or WEEI(AM)? The FM has hardly "self-destructed." It's just in a slump because the team that fuels most of its programming decided to tank this season. The AM, on the other hand, has become a dumping ground for who-cares college sports and syndicated talk, with practically no audience.

Never could understand why Entercom essentially sold all of the highest rated properties in the market. Seems that they should have kept WBZ-FM or WZLX but not both and tried to work a deal to hold on to WBZ-AM. Or, alternatively, swapping WBZ-FM for WMJX could have put Entercom in a much better position cluster wise than they are today. WODS, WEEI and WBMX would have completed the cluster.

WEEI may need a whole revampment in the end with a new younger on-air staff to save itself.

My take on it was they felt loyalty to their own stations in the market, and preferred to sell the outside stations, even though they were, as you said, higher rated. They knew the people, the operations, and the way they fit in the market. So they stuck with what they knew. In Seattle the CBS country station was higher rated, made more money, and had more heritage, and they blew it all up to preserve the weaker, lower rated Entercom country station. Made no sense, but that's what they did.

What can i say about that?

Kiss 108 is still on top! But Halloween is on the way and soon we'll be seeing WMJX pulling the Christmas music trigger. About 7 weeks to go until Thanksgiving unless the radio station wants to do it at Midnight on Election night.
