HD Radio

Is there an HD side channel in this market that shows up in ratings? Is there any value in these signals? (Sorry if this is a naive question).

The question is whether there are any that are economically successful and the answer there is "yes". Many are rented for programming such as Southeast Asian language formats, some are rented for religious use and others are niche formats.

KTBZ's HD2 and KQBT's HD2 (Pride) are supposed to be doing around $50 k a month in billing. Small, but not to be laughed at.

Not sure if anybody does this on the radio side, but a friend of mine handled the business end of a roofing business, and he advertised on a digital subchannel of a TV station about a dozen years ago. By virtue of buying a full schedule on the DT2 channel, he got one spot a day on the main channel that would be rotated among dayparts. For him, buying the DT2 was a cheap way to get onto the main TV channel when he couldn’t afford to buy a full schedule there.

Two HD stations appear in the latest Nielsen Houston-Galveston ratings: KMJQ HD2 and KUHF HD2 show up toward the bottom for Ages 6+

There is some value in these signals, but not much. Note, there are four "stream" stations near the bottom in that same table, so there might be more growth there.

Yes, I would be on the stream beating HD over time.
