They preempted that for this?

with CBS having their GOTW at night this week (7pm CDT) and their 1 hour pregame stuff here in Mankato that pushes the 6pm news up to 5 and Wheel to 12:30 this afternoon on KEYC. KEYC doesn't have a 5pm weekend newscast normally. Even in the guide it says "KEYC News Now at 6" :)

WTVY in Dothan did something similar with Wheel. The Saturday episode was moved up to 12:00 PM CT, and was put as a double run with last Tuesday's episode (pre-empted by Tuesday Night Football) at 12:30, leading into Swimming. Since Wheel only offers one feed a day six days a week, it's very rare for a station to air it twice in a row. Usually when Wheel is pre-empted on a weekday (including for the NFL game on 10/5), it gets bumped to 2:07 AM Friday night/Saturday morning, and the Saturday ep stays at 6:30 (provided the game doesn't run 30+ minutes over; I believe they do not ever run the 6:00 news past 6:30).

Soccer on CBS overran a bit, and CBS did not slide or shorten CBS Weekend News, so 6:00 ET/5:00 CT programming had to be JIP'd, or local newscasts had to be shortened. KYW's newscast began at 6:11.

WFQX did something unusual yesterday. They pre-empted their 7pm hour of programming (a local newscast and TMZ, which also airs at 10:30pm) to air the first half of the Manistee @ Ludington high school football game. The entire game aired live on their sports website (MISportsNow.com). They aired SmackDown as normal at 8pm and pre-empted the Kickoff Special

It doesn't seem like too many FOX's aired the kickoff, at least not on their main station. WNYW, being an O&O, obviously did.

I checked all the FOX's that air Wheel of Fortune at 7:30 ET/6:30 CT/MT and KHON in Hawaii (6:30 Hawaii time). Of the seven of them, only three aired the kickoff special: WBFF Baltimore (Wheel moved to 11:35 PM ET), WALA Mobile (Wheel moved to 2:00 AM CT), and WLUK Green Bay (Wheel moved early to 5:30 PM CT). WVUE New Orleans had it listed, but they aired Wheel, presumably moving the kickoff to 8.2 Bounce, which they did last year. KDVR Denver moved the kickoff to 31.2 AntennaTV; they did not last year. KHON aired the kickoff last year, but this year moved it to MyTV sister KHII to accommodate Wheel.

For some reason, CBS's nighttime game was only given three hours on the schedule, despite the afternoon games getting three and a half. Obviously, it overran big time. The third quarter wasn't even over at 11:00 PM ET. After very brief postgame compared to their usual postgame show following the afternoon games, WCBS began local news at 11:43. Out in Albuquerque on KRQE, Jeopardy! was scheduled for 9:00 PM Mountain and Wheel of Fortune for 9:30. Because of the overrun, Jeopardy! was JIP'd after the game as if it were slotted at 9:30 and Wheel did not air.

ABC's was almost as long, signing off at 11:37 and newscasts on the East Coast starting at 11:40. Fortunately for LA, despite KABC's potential 60-minute newscast being reduced to 20, this did not slide or JIP the makeups of Friday's new episodes of Jeopardy! and Wheel (slid due to MNF this week).

FOX PBA Bowling started a bit late due to NASCAR running long, and it overran to about 8:06 PM Eastern. On the East Coast, a rerun of this week's Masked Singer was JIP'd.

NBC's College Football went pretty quickly; the game ended around 5:36 Eastern, so they had a lot of time to fill afterwards.

Anyway...

For markets that carried the late Jets/Miami NFL game on CBS on Sunday (yellow on the 506Sports map), 60 Minutes and everything after it were slid back a bit. 60 Minutes started at 7:10 Eastern, followed by Ferris Bueller's Day Off at 8:10. Towards the end of the movie, for these markets only, a banner appeared reading: "MOM 10:40|9:40". A rerun of Mom began from the beginning afterwards (I thought it would be JIP'd), and 11:00 newscasts started at 11:10.

Wow, how odd, no stations in Dallas, TX or Phoenix, AZ are airing the Monday Night Football game tonight outside of ESPN.

I wonder what happened?

Something interesting happened tonight. There was a CBS special report at around 7:40, while Jeopardy! airs in my area on WBZ and of course part of the show was pre-empted by it. But I can get a different CBS affiliate (WPRI) over the air which airs the show at the same time, but it did not air the special report. Do they normally have special reports that are on some affiliates but not others?

The other CBS O&O's aired the special report as well. A few non-O&O's did too, according to some Wheel of Fortune fans on Twitter, including WBNS in Columbus and WNEM in Flint. Someone in Grand Rapids said WWMT interrupted Jeopardy!. A Wheel fan in Milwaukee said his airing wasn't interrupted on WDJT. ABC and NBC didn't air it at all, looks like.

I recall NBC breaking into most of its affiliates for something a couple months ago (I forget what it was for), but a friend of mine who watches Wheel at 7:30 on WCNC said it wasn't interrupted for him.

WS Game 2 signed off just over an hour late, around 12:01 AM Eastern.

I just noticed via an infographic during the game that FS1 starts pregame at 7:00 while FOX starts it at 7:30. So FOX is okay with pre-empting half the prime access hour on its affiliates but not the whole hour? Okay, then...

They really should be starting the games at 7:00 ET anyway like some of the summer games. How many more seasons are they going to keep scheduling postseason games for only three hours? That length for a broadcast is rare enough during the regular season as it is. I believe only one FOX game this season actually went under three hours.
