KMZZ Corpus Christi moving to 98.3

The link says 106.9 as I see it. You can bet 98.3 will go to auction

The have an app to move it to 98.3 its right at the top of the page

I am always hesitant to say anything about things like this. There is no sign of an application for this on the cdbs at the FCC. I don't know where Michi who runs fccdata.org, got this application, but I suspect it is an error. 103.7 is moving to Balcones Heights and 98.3 Odem is moving to 103.7. 98.3 will be vacant, but I would be shocked if it just gets reallocated. They'll probably just auction it and make a bunch of money.

There is an application to move KMZZ 106.9 to to 98.3

KMZZ appears to be downgrading to a Class A using it's same antenna with 6 KW on 98.3 vs it's current 25KW on 106.9.

In digging deeper on this, they are in fact looking to downgrade. I suspect this is solely to try and avoid the almost certain denial by he FCC for trying to become a Corpus Christi station. By downgrading, I'll bet they are just trying to get the frequency change approved, & then they will have an easy one step upgrade back to 1ooK watts again. It's a clever idea, but I doubt it will be approved. It will set a precedent if it is, though. It also is a nice move for Benavides. Good thinking on his part.

The application to move to 98.3 was apparently superseded.

The link above shows their current construction permit to lower to 6 KW using their current tower while remaining on 106.9.
They're also going nondirectional.
The link below is to their booster station, apparently on the air on 106.9 already. This will almost certainly help KMZZ when it downgrades.

On channel boosters are a b*&ch to maintain sometimes. I worked with a station in PA that had one but eventually turned in the booster license. Why? Whenever the booster went off the air for technical reasons (lost lock with the main or power/transmitter issues) we only got a complaint from the same person every time.. and it was costing us money for tower rent that we werent making back. We were in a pretty hilly area of PA and we had some collission areas with the booster and the main which made for a messy signal.

I work for a station now with an on channel booster and because the main is largely blocked by terrain, there are almost zero issues.

I'm not from TX, never been to the Corpus Christi area, but just lookin.. it appears to be pretty flat..... this on channel booster is going to cause more issues then it solves. It'll conflict with the main all over the place and when it does that, it'll make the signal staticy and unlistenable

They're trying again... They have since downgraded 106.9 to 6 KW from 25 KW, now they're moving to 98.3 with 6 KW.

"Claro Communications seeks to move Regional Mexican 106.9 KMZZ Bishop TX to 98.3 with no changes to its 6kW/75m facilities."

When/if the FCC allows it this time, maybe they'll be able to upgrade back to 25 KW on 98.3? Isn't there a Spanish religious station there on 98.3 in Corpus Christi however, or did it shut off? KZLR, as far as I know, is still on the air on 98.3. Good luck Mr. Benavides. LOL
