October PPM

Boy is 94.1 falling or what? Barely a 3 now. KIRO-FM is still #1 even with Dori's situation. 92.5 also not in the Top 5 anymore, and KING-FM is still strong but fading a bit.
And I'm not very surprised about 770's ratings being that high. There are a lot of angry people in Washington right now with the Covid situation, Inslee's response (like him or not), Trump vs. Biden, the riots, you name it. Not to get political but a KIRO-7 poll showed 52% 'not sure' on Lieutenant Governor, with 48% between Denny Heck and Marko Lilias. As for the 'not sure', Joshua Freed, former Bothell mayor who ran for governor and was defeated by Loren Culp in the Republican primary, is doing a write-in campaign. Next Tuesday could be very interesting...

Maybe it's just me, but people don't seem very excited or impressed by the Entercom programming changes from last month.

KPLZ is beating KQMV. They clearly made a mistake by firing Jubal. His show is taking off at KBKS. He also sounds much happier on KBKS. KQMV also fired the mid-day and afternoon personality. Clearly they aren’t making smart moves. I don’t think it will ever being #1 again.

It will be interesting to see what happens after the election is over.

I certainly am not., though I'll have o listen to KKWF to see how the national shows sound there. Here in Portland, I actually think KNRK sounds a bit better than they did last time I was here, but KWJJ and KRSK, not yet affected by the changes, are really boring now and the ratings show it. Then again, we're talking Portland, where it seems stations go up and down even more dramatically than in Seattle. Back to Seattle, KQMV at a 3.8? Outch. I'd think that's still profitable, but wow, big drop. Then again, if KBKS and KQMV were billing about the same with drastically different ratings before, then I really couldn't say what's profitable or not. I'm still not too worried about them yet though.

Certainly a precipitous drop for KQMV. As for KSWD, I wouldn't be in a complete panic, as their drop is similar to what we are seeing at 106.9. The drop probably has more to do with the format and who is listening right now to AC than does the programming. I'm a bit surprised to see KNUC behind, but it looks like they have improved somewhat from last month. KNDD seems to have taken a hit with some of the Entercom changes. We will see if that changes as we head into winter. KZOK has enjoyed great and steady numbers.

KUBE continues to under perform. If they can live with their numbers within the format, so be it. But really they should be looking at a major overhaul.

To me, 103.7 sounds like a mess. They air classic hip-hop, but it's not true to the format as I have heard 1990s R&B on that station. Tell me, is 'My Preogative' Bobby Brown 'hip hop'? No. It's new jack swing and upbeat R&B.
Either drop the R&B and ONLY have classic rap...or go to Rhythmic Oldies like what Mega 99.3 in Yakima used to play. A mix of 1970s-2000s R&B, dance pop and a little hip hop. Loved that old format here in central Washington. Was one of the few good things about the Yakima radio dial. You could hear Earth, Wind and Fire, Patti Labelle, a rap song from Rob Base, a slow jam from Keith Sweat or Babyface, Bill Withers, Zhane or TLC, and even Frankie Smith's 'Double Dutch Bus' all in just an hour's span.

With all of the radio stations in a market it's hard to program strictly to a specific genre. So sometimes a station will pull from different genres that attract a certain demo. That's what some of these hybrid formats become, such as Rhythmic AC or Urban AC.

I agree, and I'd add that there really isn't another station that plays any of that music in Seattle.

This, and we're talking about Yakima here. The audience for that station is made up of famer's kids and a growing number of Latino gangs.

'Latino gangs'? I don't want to get in trouble here, but that comment was outta line.
Yes, there are gangs in Yakima. Yes, there are farmers and their children. Guess what the farmers listen to - mostly country (KDBL, KXDD). Their kids are either country listeners or KFFM listeners (or their Spotify, Amazon Music, etc.) Guess what the Latinos mostly listen to - rap, Regional Mexican and pop music (i.e. KFFM, KHHK, KZTA). And some Latinos in general did listen to 99.3's old format.
There's plenty of us who live in Yakima that are suburban, regular Yakima people (albeit Yakima itself is Republican-slanted). Before 99.3 went classic hits in February 2019, it was one of the more unique FM stations in town. Now if I listen to anything in Yakima, it's either KARY or 1490 KYNR, the Yakama Nation station. I can get KARY here but it's variable and a little noisy. KYNR is hardly audible in Ellensburg at all, I have to go down to Yakima to get a clear signal of it. KYNR's format is all over the place and a little powwow music but I love it.

If I can turn this thread back towards the west, let me do so...

I agree, That is at least as racist and xenophobic as Dori Monson's tweet was transphobic!

Time for Kelly Alford to self admit to the Dori Monson Penalty box for three weeks!

That particular music genre is enjoyed by some Hispanic youth.

Some Hispanic youth joins gangs.

There is no connection.

The Yakima market is 52% Hispanic. That is 130,000 hispanos.

Not all Hispanics are gang members. In fact, very few are. Same as with Blacks, Italians, whatever.

Not surprising that News and Talk are on a roll in Seattle with KIRO, KUOW, KOMO and KTTH with some of their highest ratings ever. KZOK, KISW, KJR and KPLZ having some nice recent success as well. Just a tough time right now for CHR in many West Coast PPM markets and very tough for Country radio stations. Usually in an election year news/talk stations get a nice bounce and then fade after the election. Wonder if that will be the case this year or will Covid-19 continue to make news stations top of mind? Noticed KRWM and KSWD are having issues, wonder how soon after Halloween they will wait to flip all Christmas? When you look year to year quite a bit of change in Seattle. KQMV and KRWM no longer on top, Country fading and some other stations seeing a nice rebound in ratings.

Similar to agricultural communities like Fresno, CA. Yakima has been experiencing a growing Latin gang presence starting in the early 2000's. Rather than accusing me of making a racist comment, maybe look up the statistics. Or would you like me to post a link, since you have no talent?
