Rush says he is "terminal"

I was actually listening to the show today when he made the announcement that he was struggling and would need to leave early. It was a little shocking and I know Rush is a fighter and that was probably the last thing he would want to do, so he must have been in bad shape. He did take a couple more calls while his staff prepared the best of material and he said he hoped to be back on Monday. I sure hope that is the case.

Hannity made mention of the situation at the start of his program, which I thought was a nice gesture.

Remarkable how little sympathy and empathy he ever exhibited for others.
 
Several hundred stations now know they are going to have to figure out what to do with the 12-3p Eastern/9-12noon Pacific slot.

Not exactly. Those stations have contracts with Premiere. It will be up to Premiere to come up with a replacement. Stations will run whatever replacement host Premiere uses until the end of the contract. In the meantime, other syndicators are coming up with alternatives. You can expect a very spirited competition for that slot when it opens. Premiere is owned by iHeart, and iHeart has a lot of talk stations built around Rush. It will be a critical decision for all of them.

I'm really glad that for whatever reason Trump's visit to the show (not a speech) was repeated. I don't recall Rush having any problems, but now that I think of it, I may have been remembering how he was in the recording of Trump's appearance. I'm sorry things aren't going well for him. I just assumed he cut his live show short because he had the Trump appearance ready to go and wanted to repeat it.
 
I'm sure Premiere will fill the slot, but I'd think the death/retirement of a talent would trigger an "out". I remember talk of a "retirement" clause when Kidd Kraddick passed unexpectedly. (Kidd's company owned the show). Premiere could have pulled the show immediately had they chosen to. As it turns out, they didn't and the show continues with other cast members.

Obviously depends on the contract. The Kidd show is still called TKKS, and that's the way it's identified in the contract. If there's an out, that's an elective option the station can take if it has it's replacement already chosen. If not, Premiere will fill the slot. So the station's daypart will be filed, regardless.

I said speech because that is how Rush originally described it on air when he went ill. But likely he did not hear or understand the communication due to his ill health. While the interview is what might have aired, Rush said they were going to air a Trump speech for the record. I was not able to listen after that statement by Rush.
