iHeart Boston Layoff?

Boston Radio Watch on twitter mentions a big layoff at iHeart Boston today. Any word on who was affected?

AllAccess reports two so far:

KJ CARSON, mornings at Rhythmic AC WKAF/BOSTON

SHELBY TARANTO, iHEARTMEDIA/BOSTON Production Dir.

It was said RKO ran Rush instead of VB.Could be he's gone or maybe he'll be on tomorrow night w Kuhner.

They did.

Heard elsewhere they axed VB and Brittney.

Is midday becoming somewhat unimportant for modern radio stations ?

Actually, During normal times in PPM markets 10 AM to 3 PM is the highest listening level daypart, exceeding AM drive.

But that shift seems to work OK with voice tracks, as the focus is just music.

For talk stations, it is not the most important daypart except for Limbaugh. Most AM listening tends to be in the car, as AM today has severe noise issues in homes and offices due to modern electronic equipment noise levels.

For talk stations, it is not the most important daypart except for Limbaugh.

However, the fact that hundreds of major news/talk stations were willing to run a syndicated talk show in mid-days was an indication that it was a vulnerable day part for local staffing.

This is really not a "today" issue. A superior network show can win over a mediocre local one. Few markets can afford to do live local talk in all dayparts, even in some of the top 10 to 20 markets. The daypart has been vulnerable for local staffing since Limbaugh took the air nationally just over 30 years ago.

"VB" is still all over the WRKO website.

The FIRST thing IHrt does is wipe your bio and any trace of you from their servers if you are getting axed.

Don't count him out yet, with Limbaugh on deaths doorstep ( no disrespect intended ) they would be INSANE to permanently replace VB with Limbaugh right now

Have a look at VB's Twitter bio.

I agree, but it would also be a great place to debut Limbaugh's potential successor, and see how he does in Boston.

K00hnah's moving to 12-3? I heard he had a "big announcement".

He's GOING NATIONAL, BAY-BE!

VB is done.

VB was on Tom Shattuck's "Burn Barrel" podcast last night. Noted that there are four letters deleted from his Twitter profile. Didn't say anything directly (gag order?) but pretty clear he's gone.

There are some whispers that he may be headed to WRKO's sister station in this market. But he's definitely done at WRKO.
