And that station, under administration of an estate administrator, picked the cheapest format they could do while the estate is settled.
Joe Salvi, the owner, died early this year. He had been living at the station, in a back room. The FM was sold, and the AM made no money. But he seemed to like being there.
"300 song corporate radio" is, of course, a miss-statement. Stations create playlists based on however many songs listeners indicated the would, collectively, all like to hear. If there were 900, they'd play 900. But the fact is that consensus based one-for-many radio has to play what a mass of listeners likes. And that ends up being a very tight nucleus of tunes.
They'll keep on playing what they are playing until they find a buyer. Or, more likely, until the funds give out and they close it. It's estimated that it did not bill even $4000 a month for the last 6 or 7 years.
