WRCH flips to Christmas Music

WRCH 100.5 flipped to Christmas Music this morning at 6AM. This is the earliest they have flipped. Traditionally they flip on Thanksgiving Day (though one year they flipped the week of Thanksgiving). They even beat out Full Power Radio's WBMW 106.5 in the New London Market, which traditionally is the first station in Connecticut to make the flip to Christmas Music.

Wow. Wasn't expecting that! Do you know what the first Christmas song they played at 6 AM was?

The motivation for stations switching to Christmas music early this year seems to be cheering people up during these difficult times. It will bring in more listeners as a result. But never thought WRCH would flip this early.

Now the question is whether any stations anywhere will wait to flip until on or after Thanksgiving. An abrupt change like this from a station like WRCH, which seldom springs any sort of surprise, has me thinking that all of the stations that traditionally own Christmas in their markets will be flipping by sometime next week to avoid missing out on an advertising windfall (because, really, that's why stations flip to Christmas music), not to mention to stage a pre-emptive strike on any in-market station looking to shake things up and challenge the dominant tinsel-and-treacle outlet.

94.7 WMAS in the Springfield market along with 106.5 WBMW in the New London market have since made the flip. Both can be heard in parts of the Hartford Market.

Nope. I was sleeping. When I awoke after 8AM and my Mom turned on the radio they mentioned on-air that they flipped at 6AM.

Even if WMAS has flipped early, Brett Provo's Christmas Drive at 5 request shows still probably won't start until after Thanksgiving.

There's no way I could ever wake up at 6AM either but is the WRCH playlist from Nov 13 archived online?

Is there any station right out of Danbury that plans on making the flip to all Christmas music this year?

I’m not sure

Does Delilah usually go all-Christmas at some point, perhaps after Thanksgiving? Or does her show always "break format" on 'RCH during the ho-ho-ho season?

Delilah is provided as a voice track so stations can insert their own music. And there are multiple "with music" varieties too... or at least there were last I checked.

That show was one of the very first to offer different format versions and a voice-only one. And even when the show was fed live, Delilah worked on the calls, and the recordings were edited and then inserted later on in the show.
