More cuts at Bonneville

As a regular listener to KIRO’s sports via simulcast in eastern wa, i think these cuts were correct. Clayton is a great nfl mind and a great writer. His radio show was a trainwreck. The others were adequate but apparently not enough to hang on. Looks like other hosts will make up the losses, stretching the staff. I predict ESPN hosts will take over eventually. I can get that on my SXM subscription.

Clayton was the only local show I could listen to consistently (including his 4pm slot). My biggest problem with sports radio these days is they all rehash the same 3 or 4 sports stories each day. When you hear that day after day after day it loses it appeal (my ADD is probably to blame). I miss the days of Groz and Gas, NY Vinnie and the Fabulous Sports Babe. Heck even Kevin Calabro was better than most of the hosts on the radio these days. Michael Bumpus is a rising star and should get a chance to show what he's got.

BTW John Clayton used to work for KJR when he was still employed as writer/reporter for ESPN. When KIRO when all sports he moved over.

Well considering how bad the Mariners have been for so long, and how we still don't have any NBA or NHL yet, the whole "recycle the same stories" is inevitable. And as far as the firings, how could you get rid of Clayton? Yeah his Saturday shows are "unique" with some really rambling callers, but he's forgotten more about the NFL than anyone else on the station will ever know.

Like anything else, it's all about return on investment. If their income requirement exceeds the amount advertisers will pay to support that requirement, then it doesn't make sense to keep that cost around.

Again Clayton is a great, knowledgeable NFL reporter. He wasn’t very good hosting his own show IMO. Though I have heard him as a guest on other national shows and he performs well in those scenerios, his own show on KIRO was uneven and lacking in forward direction. Again just IMO.
