105.7 flips to Alternative rock

Interestingly, iHeart is opting to go with a localized branding that isn't like their usual "The X" and "ALT" branding, and is using "Everything Alternative" and "New Columbus Alternative" slogans for the station. In presentation and approach this pseudo-indie branding is closer to Channel 93.3 (KTCL) out in Denver than anything we typically hear from iHeart.

They are also wanting local hosts for evening duty.

I gave them a couple of sets, here's what I got.

1. Gotye - "Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kendra)"
2. Red Hot Chili Peppers - "Soul To Squeeze"
3. Twenty One Pilots - "Level of Concern"
4. Foo Fighters - "Walk"
5. Everclear - "Santa Monica" (this was a live acoustic rendition)
6. Royal & The Serpent - "Overwhelmed"
(commercial break)
7. blink-182 - "I Miss You"
8. Depeche Mode - "Personal Jesus (Acoustic)"
9. Cage The Elephant - "Social Cues"
10. The Black Keys - "Gold on the Ceiling"
11. The Ramones - "Blitzkrieg Bop"
12. lovelytheband - "Broken"

iHeart is sure trying to do what they can to make it less likely WWCD ends up somewhere else on the dial.

They're not stupid. WWCD was a heritage station in Columbus with a loyal audience. They know if they just launch a generic Alt the door will be wide open for WWCD reappear somewhere else on the dial. It's no accident that the playlist of WXZX so far is emulating the sound of WWCD in golds, mixed with the generic iHeart currents selection. Michael McCoy and everyone else at iHeart clearly know what WWCD sounded like and they deserve credit for going for an emulation. Whether the audience will accept them with open arms is another story.

This format change did displace Bengals games in Columbus. Not sure they've been picked up elsewhere even though WLW is easily heard here.

Not a fan, but I checked the Bengals website and it looks like they have been relegated to the 105.3 FM signal in Columbus.

it seems as though NFL play by play on the radio may not be what it once was. Once you get out of the home city... it seems as though only small signals take up the coverage. I wonder how many people still listen on the radio with so many other options available now? It would be interesting to see the radio ratings in non NFL cities like Columbus.

Thanks for the info. I didn't even think to check 105.3 last weekend and unlike in the past, WTVN's sports director did not reply on Twitter. He's usually helpful with that sort of thing.
Interesting observation on affiliates. Ever since the Bengals were taken off 610, that's been the case here in Columbus. The Browns once aired on 1460 years ago, but never on a really good signal since IIRC. 105.7's signal is decent but no powerhouse.
One notable exception I can think of is WOWO in Fort Wayne, which still is 50K daytime, being a longtime Colts affiliate.
