'Bull' Oldies on Scripted TV Shows

I'm a fan of "Bull" which airs Mondays on CBS.

Last night was their premiere episode of Season 5 and a very unusual episode it was.

Without any clue, "Bull" slips into a dreamscape which consists of Oldies music. I don't remember every tune, there were 4 of them I think, the second one being a John Fogerty classic. The last one was a basket of noise and I could not tell you who or what it was (wasn't an Oldie I recognized). Instead of Bull's team winning the case (ala Perry Mason) this one ended with Bull coming out of his dream with the entire cast lip-syncing to <something> and a tour of their filming stage.

If you get a chance it is worth watching but be warned......it is very different!

Had to go back and check: Oldie #1 "Time Has Come Today"
Oldie #2 "Bad Moon Rising"
Oldie #3 "Know Me, Know What You See <basket of noise - not sure it's an Oldie>"
Oldie #4 "The Name Game"
Oldie #5 "How Can I Be Sure?" Lip-sync'ed by entire cast

To further explain, "Bull" acts out, including dancing, some song tidbits which are triggered by the dream. It turns out he was unconscious, and (although not stated) affected by the Coronavirus. He wakes from a coma to the reality of his friends, and then the cameras go wide and show the actual Bull studio with grips and gaffers and best boys and closes with the talents all sitting together, distanced, at the close.

I found it unusual, memorable and a pretty good display of talented acting.

On the other had, recent episodes of the "Chicago" trilogy and Law & Order: SVU were so excessively politically correct and message laden that I could not finish viewing them. Call me an "old fart" but in scripted series I look for an escape, not a Hollywood lesson in politics by rich white people.

I edited my post to identify the music. One song escaped me.

Totally agree with David on this one, especially SVU.
