KCKC 102.1 now Christmas music

I think the change is too early, at least wait until after Thanksgiving. At least they didn't change on Halloween.

Now 94.9 is Christmas music too... Dang we only need 1 Christmas station per market.

I'm not trying to be Scrooge I just think this is redundant.

After Star 102 launched in 1999, it began the tradition of going all Christmas every year on Thanksgiving. A couple years later, KUDL 98.1 started doing it, too. One year, one of them jumped the gun on the flip, and the other faded mid-song into Christmas music, too.

After Star went away, that cluster didn’t want to lose the Christmas music revenue, and KUDL had already packed up and gone. So, KFKF made the flip to Christmas each year until [email protected] became KC 102.1.

From what I understand, Cumulus puts a lot of corporate pressure on at its classic hits and AC stations to do all Christmas each year. So, 94.9 KCMO goes ahead and does it. In the days when the Dickeys ran it, I was told corporate always told my old station (an AC) it was going Christmas, and no pushback was tolerated. It’s a little different now, but corporate still wants that Christmas revenue if it has a logical place to put it.
