CNN for Sale

That's why the BBC feels a responsibility to covering those places. But I notice they have been closing bureaus in places such as Nairobi and Burundi and have been firing reporters and staff as part of their government's budget cuts. Apparently their PM feels the BBC is biased against his party.

The BBC has made all sorts of cuts the past few years, and more are in progress. IIRC their new fiscal year starts in April 2021, when we might see major evidence of the latest reductions. On the radio side it might mean even further cuts to what's left of the BBC World Service on shortwave as the organization moves further into the digital arena.

You know all of those stories that aren't being covered on the main news channels because they're obsessed with one story?

You want to know who is covering them? Sheppard Smith.

Sure he spends a few minutes covering the top story. But then he covers everything else! What a concept! This is how the news channels used to be.

But this is like the case of WGN radio. Everyone knows it, everyone used to listen. Next to nobody listens today.

Over 30 years ago, when I was in Puerto Rico, it was my window on the world. I watched Wolf Blitzer raising his had above the windowsill to narrate the retaking of Kuwait. I watched the bombing of Baghdad.

Today, it is a bunch of amateurish commentators who, particularly on world subjects, make fools of themselves. It is no wonder that MSNBC smashes them in the ratings.

At that time, war was a ratings winner for CNN, and they reported the news and timeline events as news. CNN took over 24 hour coverage of the Trump presidency and built a core loyal following. How do you shift to the Biden campaign now and make it exciting and keep viewers hooked? For the first few month yes. They will need another major world event to boost viewership. Covid 19 isn't going to do it.

I'm sure there is talk in CNN programming sessions on what the next step is to keep viewers engaged. Fox (on another network like Newsmax - If acquired by a big player) will probably continue to build viewers. Trump has been critical of fox, but it is his only platform available. Yes there is digital, but he will want to reach older viewers. He feeds on attention, and will probably make amends with the network when things cool down.

The election give-ith and the election take-ith.

NewsMax will not be a major player so low-budget OAN as well and I haven't seen OAN since I think it only on AT&T & I think Dish not sure about that thou.

Also on Frontier.

Even if CNN itself was for sale it would not go away. The brand is still the most recognized in the world. I can see Fox News being in trouble with the conservative competitors going after their viewers.

Well Fox has started Fox News Now but its produced by the Fox O&O division and they are running this as a CBSN Local type operation. This has to be Fox's response to not put all their eggs in Trump and the Republican Party as their core demos. The Demos are people who watch the local Fox O&O News such as L.A. Fox 11 News, New York's Fox 5 News and San Francisco's KTVU Fox 2 News.

The people at the stations know they're different from Fox News. When Cavuto does a financial piece for the stations, it's non-partisan.

Yes and BBC News and Al-Jazeera cover other stories too besides Washington DC Politics.
