On Dec. 3 just after local sunset, I logged a new station - daytimer KYOO in Bolivar, MO, in the partial null of local 1200 WOAI. I was listening on a CC-2E with a Terk AM loop.

Sometimes I can hear a weak XEQJAL in that partial null at sunset and (especially) at night, but this is the first time I've heard something else.

On Dec. 1 I heard some very weak talk and country music when listening in that same null at sunset. I was able to identify a few songs, but the talk was too weak to decipher. On the 3rd, I heard country music again, but this time it was mixing with XEQJAL. When I reviewed that recording, I was able to identify the song "What Makes You Country" by Luke Bryan, which was followed by a "KYOO" station ID that was perfectly timed in a silent moment on WOAI.

I was pretty sure I had that one last week, but couldn't get an ID.

A little less than an hour ago (9am CST/0300 UTC) I thought I'd try the Iceland SDR to see what might be coming through shortly before sunset at that location. It was loaded with UK stuff....mostly Scotland. Some England (the London area blowtorches), along with a few from Ireland. Practically nothing from the continent.

I've been trying for London's 1548, Capital Gold. My "go to" when I used to be in London once or twice every year. 97kw aimed southeast. (I've heard it on daytime skywave in southern Germany). So when I landed on 1548 and heard oldies, my first thought was "eureka!". But it turns out what I had was Edinburgh, Scotland. As expected, the Edinburgh BBC Scotland was blasting on 810. so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised with which 1548 I had. 1089 Talk Sports was also strong. But I'm not sure which transmitter I had, since they have several (and I was hearing an echo).

I also have Heard Capital on 1548, but it was so long ago when I was in London they were still known as Capital Radio and playing currents.
 
Was just on the Iceland receiver between 0430 and 0500UTC Sunday morning. Strong signal at times from WEGP(1390) in Maine before a station from Europe blasted over it. Also WINS and CFRB fighting it out on 1010. The usuals WBBR, WBZ all were there. Absolutely nothing on the Arctic SDR.
 
1:30 pm eastern time and I'm hearing WWKB 1520 Buffalo on the Central New Jersey SDR and a good signal too.

When I was growing up in Jersey, WKBW was my favorite nighttime station but it would always vanish once it got light again and at the time, I didn't know about daytime winter skip so I never listened for it during the daytime figuring I couldn't hear it.

If only I knew back then that it was possible to hear it in the middle of the day.

The last couple of times I was in London, it had morphed into more "classic rock" than traditional "oldies". I've seen their buidling in Leicester Square a couple of times. Always tempted to stop in and check the place out, but my usual reason for being in Leicester Square was to visit the "same day discount" theater ticket kiosks.
 
This is KCIK-AM 740 Kihei, Hawaii 5000 Watts Non Directional. Recorded Friday December 4th at 1019pm AK Time in McGrath, Alaska 2900 miles away with a CC Skywave Portable radio and a Gary DeBock 5" FSL Loop. (AK is 1 hour ahead of HI, 1 hour behind CA)

This came in exceptionally well, I think. Here's audio of what I heard and there's a little bit of KCBS behind it, but I turned the loop to null them out.

Great catch and very good reception. How many hours of daylight do you have in McGrath now?

Heard WWKB tonight on the Iceland receiver with a pretty good signal even with a fairly loud hetrodyne in the mix.

straight up bright as day sunlight? 1015am ish to 415pm ish..... it starts getting lightish about 930 and is dark dark by 430ish

sunlight will be 1030 to 4pm by the end of december
 
Yesterday in my car from 7:20am until 8:00am CST, I logged WTIS in Tampa, FL on 1110 kHz. WTIS is a 10 kW ND Daytimer. At times, they completely overtook KFAB in Omaha, NE who operates at 50 kW ND during this time of day. This is my first log of an AM station in the state of Florida. CH DXing can be fun and at times quite surprising!

Check out 820 during morning critical hours. Especially in mid winter. I used to often get WWBA from the Tampa area just before local sunrise in Northern Illinois.

I appreciate the tip! To date, WWBA has not appeared here. WBAP is real powerhouse here both during CH and at night. I will try again, of course.

Awesome catch!

The ocean makes for some amazing reception.
 
I discovered a fun SDR this afternoon/evening. Saint Michel Des Saints, roghly 100 miles north of Montreal in Quebec's northwoods. Some daytime skywave in the afternoon....most notably WBZ and WBBR. Then around 9:00pm CST all the Chicago and NYC blowtorches were in, along with the usual assortment of 50kw stations from the upper midwest and northeast. WABC and WCBS were the strongest New Yorkers, while WMVP was the strongest Chicago signal. The most interesting channel of the relatively brief evening stay was 870. WHCU (1kw, directional to the northeast) from Ithica NY was on top most of the time with WWL and R. Reloj mostly underneath. Reloj getting the better of it. I also heard a couple of "old friends" that have been missing from my home location for a couple of years. CKOC from Hamilton, ON on 1150 with Monday night football, and CHOK on 1070 from Sarnia, ON (across the River from Port Huron, MI) with country music.

Critical Hour DXing can be amazing.

My best one was (then the calls) KHEY, 690, El Paso, TX about an hour before they had to change pattern. My location at the time was Guaynabo, Puerto Rico, and I was in my car at the time. 75% of the path was under darkness and nearly 2600 miles as the carrier flies.
