WarnerMedia and NBCUniversal Should Be Merged, Analyst Argues

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/warnermedia-and-nbcuniversal-should-be-merged-analyst-argues

Umm I don't see that happening but its speculation.

Will this vision actually become reality? "We doubt it," writes LightShedPartners analyst Richard Greenfield.
"It is time for both AT&T and Comcast to abandon the fool’s gold of vertical integration of content and distribution and merge NBCUniversal with WarnerMedia," LightShedPartners analyst Richard Greenfield argued on Thursday.

"In today’s media world, we believe focused scale is the only way to be both large enough and nimble enough to embrace technological change and carve a meaningful space in a tech platform-dominated landscape," he explained in a report. "Abandoning grandiose plans and empire-building is a tough psychological hump to overcome. However, it would be a wildly accretive outcome for investors. It is easy to say that we can do this in two years, five years, etc. Yet, we believe times is of the essence, as legacy media assets have entered secular decline and technology is rapidly changing consumer behavior; if you wait too long to build scale and go all-in, it might end up being too late."

If that happens the merged Warner Media and NBC Universal will have to decide to carry WWE Raw and NXT or AEW.

it won't happen, too much legal headaches as AT&T owns WarnerMedia and Comcast owns NBCUniversal and that alone would have the DOJ nix it by itself, i can see Discovery merging with one of them before a merger of those 2.

ViacomCBS will acquire Discovery.

ViacomCBS will acquire Discovery.

Interesting idea. Prior to the merger, Discovery outbid Viacom for Scripps Networks. Back then Viacom's market cap was around $14 billion. Now combined with CBS, it's over $21 billion, so it's poised to buy something. I'm not sure if buying Discovery moves the football very far. Right now, ViacomCBS owns more channels than it has content. They need to address that situation first.

They need to trim back the MTV Networks. Decide what VH1 is. They could merge Nickelodeon into Discovery's educational content.
