AM Frequency of the Week: 1640

Someone more knowledgeable than me can correct me if I'm wrong, but I've come to the conclusion is that....especially at certain times of the year....some X banders can have a sweet spot where they're reliable purely via skywave 24/7.
Nothing to do with X-Band, but I love the Carousel image for your identity!

In December, there has been skywave down to about 900 kHz all Day long the last few years. It's very weak at the low end. Down near 900, it's equivalent to the ground wave and you have complete cancellation and fading at longer distances.

Its WTNI Biloxi here. I'm noticing the skywave starts at about 1:30PM here. We're only a week away from the winter solstice.

Picayune, MS:

Daytime: WTNI Biloxi, MS "103.5 The Possum" is very weak due to poor ground conductivity
Night: WTNI is stronger, also KZLS Enid, OK "The Eagle" (talk) can be heard when pointed in that direction

Just my warped sense of humor. I had to babysit one of those things back in the 70s, and the sight still scares me! To the point where I'm now removing it, and going back to my default pic that I use elsewhere....and a happier place (Banff).
