WXPN Top 2020 countdown

You say you want a 2000+ song playlist? Public station WXPN is giving you that with it's top 2020, an eclectic mix of hits and songs only known to music geeks. This is the station that tracked the Woodstock album for the 50th anniversary at the times the event actually happened. This is what public stations can do that commercial stations can't.

Interesting that WXPN started making its mark with the AAA format in the early 90s and yet many of the bands they championed from that time forward don't show up at all in the countdown so far. The 60s through the 80s are by far the most-tapped decades in the countdown - before WXPN transitioned from an eclectic college station to a professionally-run AAA outlet.

In fact, XPN wouldn't be caught dead playing 95% of the songs on this countdown when they originally were released. It also speaks to the disposable nature of the AAA music XPN has been playing over the past 30 years, that so little of it made the cut with the countdown voters.

It does, and also the tastes of its boomer audience, that tend to lean towards the older stuff.

It's one of those things that they like to be seen as cool and hip, still listening to current stuff, but they also like the old stuff.
