Receiving WABF, 1480, Mobile, AL this morning, barefoot, like a local with a MOYL type format. Identified by station promo at 0450 CST. 5K day, 4.4K DAN into the Gulf

Hopefully an FM log counts.

91.3 - KCED WA, Centralia; heard at 1500 PT while on an exercise walk on the John Wayne / Palouse-to-Cascades Trail about a mile east of Kittitas. Top 40 song mixed with KGTS Walla Walla, w/ TOH ID 'Collective Hits of the '90s and More on KCED Centralia'. NEW #737, only 1KW at 124 miles. I suspect this to be knife-edge, as it was heard at the same time as a strong KACS 90.5 in Chehalis and Mt. Rainier is near the halfway point.

It's in tonight – right now (10:30 p.m. CT), in fact – battling back and forth with CJOB. Just heard a CFTR ID and the two-beep signature at the bottom of the hour. There's nothing like getting traffic from Toronto and weather from Winnipeg simultaneously. But I've never gotten CJCL on 590. Remember it from 1430 after the call switch from CKFH. (WKZO and KXSP, which I can't help but think of as WOW, were fighting it out on 590 tonight.)
1430 in Toronto is still going. Or at least it was the last time I was in town a couple of years ago. Ethnic and brokered stuff. ....And I'm with you. I can't help but think of Omaha's 590 as WOW. I dated a girl from northwest Iowa for a time when I was in college in the late '60s. I'll never forget when I visited her home, her parents had WOW on the kitchen radio all day, every day. It was actually a pretty good listen with "adult contemporary" music. Of course, in my then-gf's room, it was top 40 day and night on KIOA!

I had a twenty mile drive this morning from my home in Crystal Lake to Lake Geneva (Wisconsin). So on the way back, I used the occasion to check out the daytime skywave situation commencing at about 10:30 am CST (1630 UTC). I confined my DXing to the upper end of the AM band, which was not as active as a few days back. But a few tidbits....

The first thing I heard was WLAC weak and mixing with a couple of other weaker signals on 1510. 1530 was WCKY comfortably on top. Stronger than KXEL, which is closer to me and "next door" on 1540. The rest of the band produced nothing of note in identifiable form. Then I landed on 1510, and sure enough, CHHA was in and very weak. 1620 was the recently-elusive Lake County, IL TIS "network". 1630 was KCJJ...barely. Very weak. Even weaker...but unmistakable with Chinese was CINA on 1650. No trace of KCNZ. 1640. 1670, and 1690 all had their usual groundwave signals with nothing identifiable in the background.

Speaking of the Haida Gwaii SDR, I heard CHQR Calgary on 770 at 2:20 pm their local time. Good signal

It then faded out and another station came in playing 70's oldies.... Do it again by Steely Dan and Go all the way by the Raspberries, and then it faded away to just both stations very weak mixing with other.

Then CHQR came back strong with not a trace anymore of the oldies station.

What station could I have been hearing playing the music?

On the same SDR at 2:45 their time, I heard music on 680, Keep on Loving you by REO Speedwagon.

Then they gave the station ID which said '93.1 KGR' which is KKGR from Helena, Montana!

sthe same SDR at 2:45 their time, I heard music on 680, Keep on Loving you by REO Speedwagon.

I was on 680 on that SDR a little after noon, their time, and heard a very weak signal with sports talk and a commercial for "Golden Gate" something or other. So I was thinking KNBR. I'm really not sure, however, because I immediately checked 740 and 810, and neither KCBS or KGO was in. Not much else from the lower 48 either. At least that I could determine, let alone positively identify, The lone exeption was a very weak KIRO. (Vancouver's big signals were mostly present. 730 was the strongest of a weak bunch).

Tonight around 0600UTC got an ID on KNOM on the Haida Gwaii receiver and switched to the Hawaii receiver and heard KNOM mixing with KKOH. KNOM really gets out with 14KW at night.

Garden variety DX about two hours before sunrise this morning. WJRW from Grand Rapids, MI on 1340. Radio was the Sony SRF-37 Walkman. I've heard this one a few times before, but what was differernt this time....and different from most GY skywave catches....is that WJRW stayed comfortably on top for more than a half hour, with only occasional fading. Sports talk with positive ID.

Another new station! Inching closer to 800...

1570 - KTGE CA, Salinas; weak mixing with XERF and KBCV with Regional Mexican and faint 'KTGE' calls at 2000 PT (8:00PM) TOH, some type of long announcement in SS not // XERF, then back into Regional Mexican. KTGE points very little towards me, and was well-needed...so this is awesome! NEW #798, 500 watts at 716 miles.

I mentioned KBCV, they were in around 19:59:55 with 'Bott...' in the jumble and then Townhall.com news. 1566 miles.

Also KKGR-680 MT is on full day power again, right under KNBR with oldies and Christmas music.

Some south of the border stations heard in Georgia early this morning:

1) XEX-730 Mexico City, Mexico - I haven't heard this station for a while - now identifying itself as "W Deportes" and is a sports station, but early in the morning is playing electronic dance music and adult alternative music mostly in English while frequently identifying itself as "W Deportes"- confirmed this with the online stream. Not what I expected to hear from Mexico City.

2) 770 am - I believe I heard YVKK from Valencia, Venezuela - Spanish talk with lots of mentions of Venezuela and news items. This station is listed on the FCC radio listings for 770 am but not included in the 2021 WRTH radio listings. Valencia is near the Caribbean and so the signal could have a mostly water path northwest to Georgia.

3) 810 am - I frequently hear a very strong Spanish language station on this frequency in the morning but can never catch a clear identification. I guess it could be XEFW Tampico Mexico (50 kw) given long water path across Gulf of Mexico to Georgia from the southwest where it is still dark. It doesn't sound like a US-based Spanish language station but I could easily be wrong. Does anyone have any other suggestions?

And a US station:
4) WRLZ-1160 Spanish Christian station from St. Cloud/Orlando, Florida "Radio Luz" just dominates 1160 am in the morning here in Georgia, despite only 2500/500 power. Thought I might catch WYLL from Chicago early mornings but this station totally owns this frequency here. And the signal primarily beams east over the Atlantic Ocean, not northwest to Georgia. Wierd.

Thanks for any thoughts you may have.

NRK's 3KW Longyearbyean(Svalbard), Norway transmitter on 1485khz was heard in McGrath, Alaska at a distance of 4000 miles on Sat. Dec. 19th at 1739UTC (839am AK Time). Thanks to Bjarne Mjelde for helping me figure out what I heard.

Received with a CC Skywave and DeBock 5" FSL Loop, recorded on a Zoom H1 handheld digital recorder.

Even at 250 watts, WSYW, Indianapolis could be a possibility.

No WNJC here of course, with KKMO in the way.
But KKGR-680 is still on day power...

I'm almost 100 percent positive this is 1460 KCLE Burleson, TX heard at my McGrath, Alaska QTH 3240 miles away on Thu. Dec 17th at 823pm. Why am I sure? It sounds very much like an asian language to me and there are only two non spanish Ethnic stations listed on 1460.. KCLE and KBRZ near Houston and that one is Indian. Plus, at 56 seconds the female announcer says something like "viet... day".
