Orlando Jocks that Voice Track

Was a bit surprised today to hear Pat Lynch voice tracking at Classic Rock 97.9 The Fox in Charlotte - didn't think top market morning guys had to do that. To his credit, you'd think he was born/bred in North Carolina by his discussions (including some NASCAR). I know Mel from JRR does some voice tracking on other rock stations - who else that is based in O-Town can be heard elsewhere (my guess is alot of IHeart Crew).

What I find is that some of these folks want to be heard in more places. Especially if they, as you say, have history there. So why not VT a weekend shift, make some extra scratch, endear yourself to the boss, and be heard on a legendary station in your old stomping ground. What's the down side to that?

But yes it's primarily within iHeart, since that's how they roll.

The only down side is for all of the DJ's that lost their jobs over the years due to voice tracking and people who want to get into radio that can't because the stations (especially the cheap channel ones) are voice tracked.

Most of the DJs I know look for opportunity when it presents itself. VT has been around for over 25 years, and it benefits talent as well as the company. I don't know a single DJ who's turned down a syndication opportunity or any other chance to expand their personal footprint, regardless of the toll it takes on others in the same field. I think that applies to other lines of work. It's a dog eat dog world.

I get it. It's a shame it has to be that way. I would think anyone who wants to go into radio as an on air music personality nowadays would be crazy to do it.

Only if afraid of failure, or if they question their own abilities.

It's like being an actor or a recording artist or any other subjective talent. Watch The Voice and think about what they're putting themselves through just for the long shot chance of being a singer. Good luck!

I sure as heck didn't turn down that opportunity 4 1/2 years ago when I joined Local Radio Networks. I'm just a small town radio guy surrounded by ex WW1/Jones/ABC Networks talent.. I'm the overnight classic country talent and I happen to be on when most stations wouldnt have live local talent anyways. (Hicksville, OH...Cottage Grove, OR... Slaton, TX.. Colby, KS)

Anyone else syndicating a fully produced radio show of their own as a labor of love? Or is it just me?

Syndication continues to make the big two money. I get a least a few solicitations for syndicated programming each day. We run 98% local with our trackers in house. I don't care to make them money, and I don't want to give up inventory. It is a non issue for us.
