Cable channels that are free to stream

I'm still wondering why channels such as Newsmaxx, Cheddar, Black News Channel and Newsy are free to stream on platforms like Pluto TV and Samsung TV+ but are on higher tier packages on Spectrum Cable.
I know these channels charge a fee, but shoot, if they are free to stream then I would think they would offer them to cable companies for a "discount." The programming is identical to the free stream for most of these channels.
Its kind of annoying that if I don't have them in my cable package, I have to switch to Roku to watch the channels instead of channel surfing through them.

In the case of Pluto TV isn't CBS funding Pluto TV with carriage fees from traditional TV, All Access subscribers and advertising fee. I understand Fox does the same for their Free streaming outlet Tubi too to make money off free services.

I know that Newsmax, Cheddar and some other services stream for free on the internet. That's why I don't understand why they don't include these type of channels with basic cable but instead you have to be on a higher tier to watch it. Not worth paying if you can just stream them.

When those channels are carried by cable or satellite, they get carriage fees from the service provider to consumers. If they stream, they get fewer views OTA and thus, can get less revenue from the cable systems.

The reason lots of channels are on paid premium tiers is to pay the carriage fees.

If your cable service has ESPN, check how much of your monthly bill is just for that service. I got a customized service with no sports channels and cut over $200 a year from my bills!

Check out Cable and satellite TV customers pay more than $9.00 per month for ESPN networks whether they watch them or not for just ESPN. the aggregateof all sports channels is about $20 a month for most subscribers.

Some of it also depends on the cable company. Some cable companies include different channels in basic.
