Easy 99.1 adds 60s at 6

Starting tomorrow, the great Easy 99.1 will now have 60s at 6 to go along with 70s at 7, 80s at 8, and 90s at 9. Which is really nice, because I feel like radio in general doesn't play enough 60s. However, I still wish they would stick to the AC format on some of those other shows, particularly the 90s at 9. And I still wonder if they'll ever have a morning show again. Do you remember if they had a morning show back in the 90s during the short time they had the "variety" format?

Now, now, just relax, someone way more knowledgeable than you or me will come along, I'm sure, and tell you that people like us who want 60s music on terrestrial, commercial radio are tantamount to non-entities.

Partly because Easy 99.1 doesn't subscribe to Nielsen.
I'm almost 100% positive that has nothing to do with it....actually, i'm almost 100% positive that it's the opposite ideology....Just because a station doesn't subscribe, doesn't mean the strategy doesn't revolve around ratings. It only "doesn't matter" when you unplug the encoder

Could you please explain what you just said without the quadruple negatives?

This station is no longer a straight up ac

I'm going to attempt to interpret Radio 1992's mush-up without the quadruple negatives. I'll let you be the judge if it (1) makes any sense, and (2) is correct. Here goes:

"If a station subscribes to Nielsen, it means the strategy (Easy 99.1's 60s at 6) revolves around ratings. It matters when the encoder is plugged in."

His comment was in response to my comment, which was in response to your comment about people who want 60s music on terrestrial are non-entities.

What I was saying is that people are non-entities because they're not being counted by Nielsen. Therefore the station isn't selling numbers or demographics. They're selling results. That's a different revenue model than most other stations in the Boston market.

No...A station doesn't have to subscribe in order for the strategy to be to maximize ratings. When you have the encoder plugged in, ratings still matter. The only time ratings don't matter to a station is if a station decides to unplug the encoder. So, I don't think Easy 99.1 is making programming moves because they don't subscribe. I"m pretty sure you were implying that it doesn't matter. At least that what I took from your sentence

Easy 99.1 with 60's at 6 and 70's at 7. SiriusXM 60's on 6, 70's on 7 ?? SiriusXM did it first! Any original thought at 99.1?

What's more important than being original is bringing in listeners (and revenue). Many stations nationwide use that gimmick, so it must work to some degree, and many terrestrial radio listeners still don't want to pay a monthly fee to subscribe to Sirius/XM.

Good point. However, there is so much competition for terrestrial radio stations that play music these days optimal creativity in how you capture listeners is essential for success.

Is any radio thought "original"? I think they are the only ones on broadcast radio doing this right now in this area. Being over creative trying to develop something different usually fails

Sorry but there's not much creativity involved in playing 50 or 60 year old hits. It's very "easy" if you pardon the pun.

The real creativity is taking chances on new artists or less popular genres.

So...stay way from timeless hits and play unknown music? I don't think they are trying to be "creative"
