I remember being thrilled back when I was 14, when I was the correct caller for a free album or cassette of my choice on WROR! At the time, the station had sent me a release to be able to use my winning call in future promotions. Being young and naïve about radio at the time, I thought that I had made a total fool out of myself. It wasn't until very many years later that I learned this was exactly what radio wants people to sound like when they win something!

I produce a weekly show on commercial radio to recognize independent musicians here in Boston and I’m fortunate enough to experience several videos like the one Olivia posted….BTW she now has the number one song in the country and I’m sure that’s in part thanks to that station (which I believe is Mix 105.1 in Utah). Live and local radio still means a great deal to independent musicians, especially those under 30. Having their song played on the radio is one of the greatest moments of their life and they’ll never forget it.
This is correct...she is #1 in the Billboard Hot 100. However, that chart combines streaming and airplay:

The out-of-the-box hit is the latest of just two dozen songs to have twice as many Hot 100 chart points as its nearest competitor.
Keep in mind Olivia is more than your average 17 year old girl. She is the star of a TV show on the Disney Channel. Sort of the new Mylie Cyrus.
But this all has an impact on CHR radio as well, where everyone wants to play whatever's new and hot.
Sorry...should have specified that. That does help that she's signed to a major label. But it's still a big deal to have a song played on the radio and thankfully here in our area we still have a few stations who are willing to give indie acts a chance.
Not really an indie act. The song is on Interscope, which is part of Warner Music Group.
