New translator in Austin on 107.9

The KOKE-FM transmitter on 99.3 is a Class C3 some 30 miles east of downtown Austin. The area that the translator will cover is a hilly area around 40 miles from the station, so the 99.3 signal is probably quite poor there.

Judging from the transmitter site that is visited in the second video, it would appear K300DU is actually here: FCCdata.org - powered by REC

(Map may take a few moments to load. You can click on "view Google map", then switch to satellite view and zoom in. Also nearby street view shows this apparently being the same tower that is in the video.)

Most of the Austin market will not get a good signal from this. However I don't know what areas have the highest South Asian demographics, so perhaps it works well enough.

So this station is illegal unless it is broadcasting country music like KOKE is currently. What a surprise. Of course Dan Alpert is involved.

Or, that KOKE has an HD channel that is "originating".

The most recent application for K300DU shows it is supposed to relay KTSN 1490. The original CP listed KOKE-FM as the primary station, but it was subsequently changed to KTSN when it was sold.

Guessing Hum 107.9 isn’t on 1490 either right now.

The 100.1 translator K261DW rebroadcasts Sun Network from KTSN, so 107.9 is not getting its programming from there.

KTSN does broadcast in HD. Were they to go digital only, they could possibly originate a second program stream, if I understand correctly.

From RadioInsight:
"Dan Alpert’s Ginger Broadcasting sells 107.9 K300DU Greenshores/Austin TX to Rehan Siddiqi’s Austin Media Broadcasting LLC for $310,000. The translator already airs Siddiqi’s South Asian “Hum-FM” programming fed via Audacy’s 95.5 KKMJ-HD3. Siddiqi also operates multiple translators in the Houston market."
