Cloris Leachman (1926-2021)

The longtime actress and star of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, Young Frankenstein, The Last Picture Show and more passed away today at the age of 94. She also did a guest role once on Two and a Half Men as 'Norma', Charlie's elderly neighbor that Alan dated. May she RIP.

The MTM show was one of my favorites and Cloris was a huge part of it. Some may remember her spinoff “Phyllis” on CBS for two seasons ‘75-‘77, and actually beating the MTM show in its first season.

My favorite memory of her is when she was on the dais at the Comedy Central roast of Bob Saget. She got on the mic and said something to the effect of "I'm not here to roast Bob Saget, I'm here to @#$% John Stamos!" and the crowd went crazy. Minutes later, after she'd finished roasting Saget, she said "OK, Stamos...Let's see what ya got!" and she brought him up to the podium and put a nice, big lip lock oh him. Lol.

That's great. I wish I had seen it.

She was also Frau Blucher in Young Frankenstein.
Never saw that movie but I want to. I still listen to "Car Talk" every week online as if reruns were still on NPR, and they keep doing the Frau Blucher joke with the credits every single week, regardless of when the original material first aired.

I knew her as "Phyllis" but what I really liked about that show was Mother Dexter.

One of her last roles was as the senile grandmother on "Raising Hope". Only she wasn't senile about half the time. Sometimes her mind was quite good. other times her behavior was bizarre. It was a great role.
