Sirius/XM recently launched satellite fails.

Per AllAccess, the new satellite launched by Sirius/XM has failed during initial testing.

Sounds like one or more of their transponders failed or never woke up. Oh well, that's why they have insurance.

That's what I thought when I saw that story. They have duplication and back-ups. And a new one going up later this year.
guess SXM-8 will do what SXM-7 was meant to do and they gonna have to build a new satellite aka SXM-9 to cover what SXM-8 was meant to be or keep one of the older ones in orbit much longer than intended and use it until the time is due for a replacement.

Sirius has a fleet of geosynchronous satellites, where XM satellites are geostationary. Newer receivers can receive either. That, and the existing 5 and 6 birds are still working fine.
