Bob Bittner acquires Silent 1240 WBAS/101.5 W268CP West Yarmouth MA

From Radio Insight,

“Bob Bittner acquires Silent 1240 WBAS/101.5 W268CP West Yarmouth MA from Langer Broadcasting for $100,000 to join his network of Soft Oldies/Standards stations in Boston and Maine”

I thought 101.5 was the frequency that WKFY moved to from 98.7. And I'm also pretty sure that 740 comes in fairly well down the Cape during the day.

While the station may be hearable, it is not listenable by the average person. The 5mV/m signal does not even reach Quincy.

Me thinks Bob overpaid, but that is just an opinion.

Anyone know how much Boston University got when they sold it to Langer?

I bet Boch Broadcasting got more than a net 100K tax credit for donating it to B.U,

730 WJTO comes in better on the cape than 740, but still not a local signal. As I mentioned elsewhere, the 101.5 translator went silent when WKFY moved. The translator has a CP to move to 106.5.

Depends on where you are. In Sandwich I can get WJIB but how well depends on the radio and what part of town. Further from the water it gets worse which makes sense. My OEM car radios get it pretty well, in the house an SRF-A100 works pretty well and is stereo. Reception is weak of course so there is some noise to ignore. 1240AM when it was running came in strongly here so it will be good to have that local option. WJTO I really can't get at all but I can driving along route 93 near South Bay.

Speaking of WJTO - does it run in AM Stereo? Never been close enough to check. Hoping that 1240AM will once things are settled.

I heard 1240AM on the air this afternoon playing "real jazz". Did not hear the top of hour ID but there was one liner (by someone other than Bob) saying "All Day, All Night, Real Jazz". About 3:40pm the signal cut out and Sean Hannity started coming in - not sure from what station. Revisiting the above - today I'm finding WJTO is coming in better here (Sandwich near Sagamore bridge) and 1240 is much weaker than I remembered.

The previous owner, Alex Langer, is currently running jazz on his stations, WSRO 650, WZBR 1410, and WBAS 1240. Bob has not taken over 1240 yet.

1410 WZBR is now running foreign language programming, possibly Haitian Creole.
That’s good, Langer must have found an airtime buyer for this programming on 1410 WZBR. 650 WSRO is still running jazz, which is a placeholder when he doesn’t have paid programming.

However, the FM translator for WZBR on 98.1 in Medford seems to be transmitting a blank carrier. It was simulcasting the jazz programming last week. Could be a technical issue.

The WBAS 1240 translator on 106.5 was off air Thursday. Today it is on. Not sure about Friday but Friday 5pm'ish 1240 was on. Guess he had to get it back on air before the one year ran out or selling to Bob would be a moot point.
