KSDS (Jazz 88) ad song question

Not sure who listens to this sttion besides, sometimes, me. But there's a station ad with a particular song with the lyric:

"Dan-dan-dandy San Diego, where the sweet perfume of the waterfront meets the air" or some such. I keep googling strings related to this but get nothing. Anyone know the song and who it's by?

I listen to Jazz 88. Yes I hear that station ID jingle too. I am guessing it would be a very early jingle in San Diego radio or just a promo for a station

Ah, OK. I hadn't even thought of that but it makes sense. Not a song that most people would listen to in full on the radio or in their own Spotify stash (or whatever you use).

I have had this exact same question, and it sounded like it came from a little more than a jingle. I did my own searching and, lo and behold:
Mel Tormé with His Mel-Tones, California suite (1949)

The relevant cut is found at the 11:21 mark. As soon as I saw Mel Torme's name on my search , I pretty much knew it was the same one!
( I should note that I listen to KSDM through TuneIn, pretty much every day)

I don't know why I didn't click on this thread until today---I could have answered it back in February. Desertpine is right---Mel Torme's California Suite. It's a valentine to the state, absolutely dated, but worth at least one listen all the way through.

Thanks, all of you, no matter how early or late. Listening to KSDS right now, but I'll check out the Mel Torme selection later or tomorrow. Quite catchy.

On the general topic of KSDS (maybe this deserves a new thread, but I don't have much in the way of thoughts), I saw them advertise their HD2 on their homepage last night. "SDS" or, IIRC "Student Designed Sound". It's an apparatus of City College's broadcasting program.

It's interesting, albeit pretty cautious compared to, say, KDVS (Sacramento area) or even KEXP (Seattle). Hearing a lot of early '00's mainstream stuff, which is apparently "retro" now? Guess I've been around for a minute.

Still, it's kind of different.
