Posts moved from the Alex Trebek obit.

Ken doesn't have Alex's special qualities, but no one will. I don't think Ken will be the one either but I saw nothing particualrly wrong with him.

Jeopardy! confirmed a list of several other guest hosts today. They include CNN's Sanjay Gupta and Anderson Cooper, NBC's Savannah Guthrie, and syndicated medical show star Dr. Mehmet Oz. This is in addition to a list of celebrities previously mentioned, including NFL quarterback Aaron Rogers, former Today show host Katie Couric, and CBS correspondent Bill Whitaker.

Also, apparently Jeopardy's head honcho Mike Richards will take a turn behind the podium. I guess these are truly guest slots, because few of them appear as interested parties in the job permanently.

I've watched a few of Ken Jennings' episodes in recent weeks. He's fine and with some coaching and experience he could be good.

I have to say though, Ken as host numbers are really good. They've been gradually climbing. Last evening in one top five market target demo to be unnamed, the show pulled a 74. share.

Ken messed up. There is no Morgantown, NC. It's Morganton. That's where Watergate prosecutor Sam Ervin and one of the contestants this week are from. Also my mother's stepmother.

Still, I'd rather have Ken be permanent than put up with most of these people.

Ken is kind of growing on me. For someone who, as far as I know, has never been a professional broadcaster, he seems relatively at ease with the role.

Celebrity hosts for that show is a repugnant concept, even if charities do benefit. The show has never been political and I'm sure plenty of conservatives watch and enjoy it, yet who gets the call but Savannah Guthrie, Anderson Cooper and Katie Couric. And Aaron Rodgers? Why why why?

They should just pick a professional, intelligent broadcaster with a pleasing appearance and personality, announce that person as the permanent host and get on with it.

Not liking the news doesn’t make it political.
No, it doesn't, but choosing those hosts is unnecessarily triggering an audience that has enjoyed the show for years even if they never hint at their personal views on any sensitive issue while hosting.

Actually, I'm against celebrities proclaiming their generosity to millions by getting their overexposed faces on television across the nation at 7 p.m. -- bunch of Pharisees, the whole lot. Let them continue to do whatever it is they did to earn their celebrity (make movies, sing songs. read the nightly news) where they've always done it and practice their philanthropy in private.

Alex Trebek was a celebrity. Whoever lands the job permanently will be a celebrity of some sort at the national level. The idea of plucking a weatherman out of Nashville may have worked eons ago for Wheel; it's not going to fly for Jeopardy here in 2021. It didn't in 1984--Alex had a body of work already at that point.

None of the guests have "proclaimed" their generosity. The show said it's going to make a match.

My issue with Dr Oz has nothing to do with him having another gig. It's peddling misinformation, junk science & quack medicine. Beyond that, I understand the situation they're in, and don't object to having some other people do their turn for a while to keep the show going in the interim.
