Kevin + Sluggo Debuts on KLOS 2/18/2021

I wouldn't be surprised if this is the new morning show a few months down the road and they are running afternoons as a test, much like KROQ did with Stryker & Klein.

Both personalities are very well-known by KLOS's core audience! Very strong pairing.

I dont like stryker and klein in the morning. They were more suited for afternoons. And the gal they have isnt very good. The woody show on alt 98.7 is much better.

Klos aint gonna touch mornings as long as the numbers are decent.

I agree - Aly Johnson and Klein worked together in San Francisco. Once she joined the staff, I felt like it was mostly Klein and Aly bantering most of the time, with Stryker just chiming in.

Such a shame because Stryker was really one of the best on-air talents in Los Angeles when he was solo. Stryker and Klein in the afternoons worked very well, but I agree, mornings are flat against KYSR.

Despite being in so many markets, The Woody Show does a very good job with making the show sound local.

I really love KYSR's move to add Chris Booker to afternoons. Very nice replacement for Harms.

First listen impressions of Kevin & Sluggo (K&S):
* Bean was the secret sauce of the prior pairing. Bean did the research, had a wealth of knowledge, and asked inciteful questions during guest interviews. Kevin was in many ways the sidekick and it shows here on the first day of K&S as Kevin is not doing much beyond riffing about himself. Understanding it's the first day, Kevin will need to step up and produce some comedy bits and bring more researched concepts to the program, otherwise it will be missing the entertainment factor that his prior 30 years on KROQ delivered
* Sluggo had charisma and presence during his KROQ days. He seems more toned down on K&S. Hopefully, he too will work to recapture more of his rebellious nature and infuse the program with more of that "I can't believe what I just heard" aura
* I prefer the music of KROQ so enduring the excessive Van Halen on KLOS is a chore for this listener to overcome, meaning K&S need to bring their A game to retain the many of us who are sampling the show for now, but will potentially drift away if it doesn't develop its own compelling shtick

I actually thought the first show was very solid. Had some nice celebrity guests with Jimmy Kimmel and Bob Saget calling in. I normally don't listen to KLOS (and grew up listening to both K&B and Sluggo on KROQ) and I will definitely listen again. It had a nice energy for an afternoon show. I'm actually surprised Sluggo still has it after all of these years!

Sluggo has been on Sirius XM's First Wave channel for some years. Sure he has toned it down, nobody stays a 20 year old punk rock rebel for forty years.

'Sluggo' was a character on the old 'Nancy' comic strips. I've always wondered why on-air people use well known names from other genres? Lack of imagination?

And since I assume these names are not trademarked, what's to prevent a second, third or fourth person from using them?

He started out as Doug Roberts. He then became Doug the Slug, which eventually became Sluggo. He has also referred to himself as "That Slug Monstrosity."
