Missouri radio during bad weather

First off I hope you all are staying safe! We have a frozen toilet filler pipe right now but that's it.

Here are the FM stations which are having trouble in Kansas City. Feel free to provide a list of your city if you want.

97.7 KNIU Spanish Christian LPFM - completely off
100.5 Spanish/English Christian translator - dead air
102.9 English talk translator - dead air
105.9 KKSW Pop - dead air

100.5 has been dead air the longest, since Sunday. 97.7 went off this morning. Power outage is apparently the reason for that one's complete absence. As for 102.9 and 105.9, not sure but they both have been dead air all day.

Here I have a couple updates, The 104.7 translator is now dead air, (usually broadcasts the same programming as 102.9). However the KOJH 104.7 LPFM seems to be on with it's usual music but not sure as the translator covers it up mostly here.
KKSW 105.9 Kiss FM has been fixed.

KNIU 97.7's transmitter came back on earlier, and the music came back shortly after.

Also the 104.7 translator has been fixed.

The only 2 signals left on FM that were affected by the bad weather that are currently dead air, 100.5 and 102.9 in Kansas City.

I take that back about only 2 signals, now there's 3 as the 94.5 sports translator has been silent all night.
As for the KOJH 104.7 LPFM, it's on. I was able to verify.

94.5 is back on, and since nobodys replying to this thread I'll stop updating. I assume the currently silent FMs on 100.5 and 102.9 will get fixed soon.

Nobody is replying to this thread because:

a) Apparently, there are few people are interested in what is going on in Kansas City. I don't know why, I think it's one of the better top 50 markets. Perhaps not a whole lot of members know or care about KC, maybe never worked or lived in the area. I tried to start what I thought is a compelling topic about CHR in Kansas City about 3 weeks ago, and nobody replied.

b) The FM translators in town, besides 102.5, have very little significance, and most have technical problems or are silent. I don't like saying "Who cares?", but if I can't get anyone to give their opinions about the relevant 100,000 watt stations, not many are likely to reply to threads about translators that are 250 watts or less, or LPFMs that cover less than half of the market.

I would like Kansas City to have it's own sub-forum like St. louis has, but there's probably not enough interest on this website for that.

Kansas City is a great market. It has fewer stations than most markets its size, largely because there's another rated market an hour away, and the FCC's spacing rules prohibit stations from the two markets from being next to each other. One other thing to remember about Kansas City is that most everybody there is making good money. You're not going to see very many changes in a market like that, and, unlike some other markets, there's not much drama. People also generally don't go anywhere once they get there. I moved out of Kansas City 20 years ago this July, and I can't count many format changes since that time. The top stations are pretty much still the same stations, and most of the same people are still working in the market, though some have changed stations.

There are lots of stations, not all from KC. There's a St. Joe signal and a Topeka signal, 105.5 and 105.9, which come in decently well where I am. The 2 translators 100.5 and 102.9 are still dead air, by the way.

You can also get most Topeka stations on the Kansas side of Kansas City. I used to have a co-worker at the office in Lenexa who would listen to KDVV 100.3 and KMAJ-FM 107.7 on her boombox. I could get 107.7 on my clock radio in Shawnee. At the time, you could also get KTPK 106.9 pretty easily, too.

The former KLZR 105.9 used to put a good signal over Lawrence and KC but moved its tower to Lecompton to try to cover Topeka better. The Booth family was generally a smart operator, but that Lecompton tower was a big mistake. Topeka has always been a hard place to make money. KLZR, then a top-40/CHR, did succeed in forcing WIBW-FM (then on 97.3) out of the format to country, but it never made much money targeting Topeka. In the mid-90’s, it started to target KC again with a modern rock format, but it was at a serious disadvantage, especially with KISF 107.3 trying to claim the format about a year later.

KKJO moved from 105.1 to 105.5 when I lived there to accommodate the sign on of the former KFME 105.1. It got a huge signal boost by moving to 105.5 as it had to move towers, too, and the new tower was closer to KC. I lived north of the river in Platte County near Parkville my last year in KC, and I could hear KKJO at both 105.1 and 105.5 at my place, but I could hear 105.5 on my Walkman at work in Lenexa. I could never hear 105.1 at work. When I lived in Shawnee, I'd sometimes even get the old KOSP 105.1 from Springfield instead of St. Joe. KSJQ 92.7 used to also be listenable if you were north of the river.
