LP station off, for now, in Greenville

Looks like Kool-FM, WZWK-LP, is off the air for a bit. They are in the process of moving their antenna location. As you'd expect, the translator at 107.7 is also off the air.

I don't see a CP to allow for this, but it would be nice, a better signal for Greenville is needed, their signal barely reaches 5 miles from their transmitters (about the Red Circle on RL maps at the 60 dbu)...and 107.7 isn't a good choice in that area even with their signal right on top of a mountain, though I have heard it thru faint static even in West Spartanburg (another 107.7 in Mauldin WGWY really causes issues around most of Greenville).

For now since it’s off, From west Spartanburg, Instead of hearing W299BO faintly, I can hear the FM translator for Real Country WHKP on 107.7 in Hendersonville NC (W299BZ) also very faint thru static in certain spots.

The 101.5 frequency is now crowded by signals from Shelby, Tryon, Anderson and even Raleigh.

Any chance of streaming? Or is it cost prohibitive? Your music mix is great! Much better than Earth FM.
Thank you for the compliments! Streaming- not at this time. The ASR number is transferred and all we are waiting on is the coordinates change at the FAA and a minor mod before we begin building. Maybe a couple of weeks.

Heard it the other day on US-29 from Bob Jones University to Taylors, weak signal on 107.7 was playing oldies music but the 101.5 signal was still off...

Turns out the oldies I was hearing the other day on 107.7 north of Greenville is a simulcast of WGYT 92.1 in Greer SC (heard their top of the hour ID - no commercials either)...Guessing it's still 10 watts from Paris Mountain. Perhaps it's temporary but cool to boost that station too in that area.
101.5 signal still off for now

Ironic and interesting, 107.7 signal from Paris Mountain heard thru the static in West Spartanburg, which is the same signal Kool FM WZWK was using, but for now it is indeed simulcasting WGYT 92.1 from Greer. It's ironic because Spartanburg can't hear WGYT from Greer (closer than Paris Mountain) because of 92.1 WXPS..

The 107.7 that was the translator for WZWK is an incredibly crappy signal. The legal ID is Berea, but they also say "Travelers Rest." I've been in both areas and neither gets a nice clear signal of that 107.7.

Reminds me of the 100.1 (W261AP - Kings Mountain) 7 watt signal atop Crowders Mountain near Gastonia...Barely a decent signal even in the COL and barely reaches half of Gastonia only a few miles away...

Same goes for 105.9 (W290BW), I start to hear WTMT once into Travelers Rest, though it’s right next to Paris Mountain, very directional...

Only place I’ve heard 107.7 decently is literally next to Paris Mountain on 25, didn’t seem to reach Travelers Rest at all...Gets weak heading south on 25 going Into West Greenville towards 85.

Most of the area 107.7 is not a strong signal and then south on 385 the Mauldin / Simpsonville Station WGWY takes over... They should really consolidate that channel since it’s really frustrating depending on which side of town you’re on...

We've cleared all the government obstacles and are actively preparing for the rebuild of WZWK on our new tower. 107.7 will also be part of our simulcast. We're very grateful to WGYT (92.1 in Greer) for agreeing to keep the oldies on the air on our 107.7 signal until things were rebuilt. We agree. We'd like to see them on a larger signal as well! Give us a few weeks and Kool-FM will be back. :)

Doesn't seem like their signal improved much, but glad they're back...I still had trouble getting their signal in Mauldin yesterday which isn't even that far from their transmitter.

Edit: looks like their CP moved the tower site to near the Haywood Mall (on the Patewood/St Francis Hospital Campus) but the signal power dropped to 25 watts at 128 feet, so a stronger signal for the east side of Greenville, to near Taylors, but loss of signal west of Downtown.

I remember hearing that their former site was near the "center of population" for the Greenville area...This new site is about 3 miles east of the old one.

Would you believe one year when WEZV was off the air temporarily, I heard WTMT just outside Myrtle Beach?
Wow. Before 105.9 from Greenville went on, it was possible at times to hear WTMT in parts of Greenville and Spartanburg, they have one of the strongest sticks in the Asheville area.

105.9 is very directional signal from Paris Mountain, barely makes it like 2 miles north from the Mountain but no problem going 25 miles South, East, or West...

I've heard similar about the 104.7 W284BW in NYC from the WTC, where the signal doesn't even go a few blocks north into Manhattan from their site because of WSPK, but reaches many miles in NJ in the opposite direction just fine...

It's not as good downtown, at least that's what I've found. Also, the format has tweaked a bit. It's the same format and name, but the music is closer to Jack 99.5. Definitely fewer older oldies. I liked it better before. It was very different.

Very strong signal near the Haywood Mall now, but that's about the only area, still some audible static while driving down I-85 towards Pelham Road and better than before north on 85 into Spartanburg County, finally dropping out about Greer exits 58-60

They need a taller tower that has a better line of sight because 25 watts isn't gonna go too far. Still makes it static free about 2 miles from their site which is visible off 385 near Haywood Road / Roper Mountain...
